Re: You don’t see this every day...
Wow that's crazy! I wonder how much he's really looking to get for that. I'd love to look through a collection like this, but at the same time I hate seeing it because all these trucks wound up in this condition one way or another. I know the logistics and politics would be a nightmare, but it would be neat if we could do some sort of forum group buy so that the trucks/parts available here would get put to good use.

Re: You don’t see this every day...
He's been selling parts for years on craigslist , You can bet it's been picked over pretty well . Still a lot of old iron sitting there but How many titles ? The cost and logistics to move even the best of it isn't worth the time and cost after buying it . If he was serious there would be a buy it now price and I'll bet it's HIGH !

Re: You don’t see this every day...
Holy Carumba......wow, there are probably a lot of opportunities within that bunch of trucks but you have to assume 50% of what you buy has no real value.
It would be important that the pics in the ad are recent...and not from 2,3 or 5 years ago....which a lot of guys use when selling stuff for all the worse reasons. Coley

Re: You don’t see this every day...
^Yeah, it seems like I've seen all those pics before on Craigslist... Who know's what's really left.
Unfortunately, I see A LOT of parts trucks with not a lot of good left on them. There looks to be a few decent looking trucks for starters, But like GrumpyOldMan said, I just don't think it's worth the time/effort unless this is what you do for your job (like you own a parts/junkyard, or are retired and sell parts.) How do you move 90 trucks affordably? Just moving them all could kill any potential profit unless you get the whole lot stupid cheap, which I have a feeling will not be the case.

Re: You don’t see this every day...
They have been sitting there rusting for years because they are overpriced. If they were priced to sell they would already be in someone’s garage as projects.

Re: You don’t see this every day...
Well, it will be a fun auction to watch because it will tell a tale of real value vs. 'hopeful' or wishful thinking in terms of value.
I would be surprised if the entire group breaks above $10k for everything....but ya' never know. This kind of thing can often serve as a good working example to the 'hoarding' contingent of enthusiasts often out there. There is a time to sell so don't miss the boat on 'when the getting' is good.....certainly if 'rust' is in play while you wait. My two bits. Coley

Eric is a super good guy...he sold me nice hood for $90 last year and a inside spare tire mount for $10...This will be a logistical nightmare.

Re: You don’t see this every day...
Man, too bad this is so far away. I'd love to have one of the campers, and a burb hull or two, plus a few cabs. I saw one K10/K20 with no rear axle in pic one too. It will be a fun one to follow.

Re: You don’t see this every day...
Bad thing is you don't have to be a truck guy to see the value here. 90 plus vehicles at average $100 each for scrap is 9k. Depending on final price you could cherry pick it and scrap the rest if there is a yard close to buy them.

Re: You don’t see this every day...
I have only been to one auction....I found some deals but watched in amusement as two old men got into a "bidding war" and drove the price of a box of .30.30 shells to over $20.00, the same box they could have bought at Walmart for $8.00 at the time.
It was a great lesson in "keeping your emotions in check." That one guy was so happy to pay $12.00 more than market value.......SMH. |

Some of those vehicles literally had almost rotted to nothing in that field by the time they were bought....despite theoretically low mileage. As interesting as it was, I would never pay for a project of that cost and scope due to a low mileage odometer....but I am just one guy and that is my personal opinion on it. Coley

Re: You don’t see this every day...
It is seldom a good idea to think with our hearts and not our heads.
I've won a few online gun auctions but for those I set myself a bidding limit and I might go a bit beyond it but not by much. Once I began to think "don't be sad at losing, be happy for the guy that won," I found it much easier to stop bidding. |

Re: You don’t see this every day...
I wouldn't think it's worth any more than $5k. Maybe base the price on the titled trucks. It's time to sort them out, strip some, save the others. He's probably letting it all go because he doesn't see a lot of money left in them and seeing that taking longer to get.
I never bid without setting a limit first, and I stick to it. It's just like buying anything else. You pay what it's worth, and you are the judge of that.

Re: You don’t see this every day...
well...this auction is coming due within the next 2 hrs.
Looks like the maximum bid is around $3k Plus right now for the whole yard. So it will be interesting if the guy backs away...and holds the reserve....or if it shoots up?.....to $4k? ....or $5-6K or? My initial guess when I first saw it was that I couldn't see it getting more than $10K...but I may have guessed high, lol. Regardless...interesting to see how it finishes up shortly. Coley

Re: You don’t see this every day...
...hmmm, 15 minutes left in the auction.
Still at $3k + for the whole yard.....looking more like a no sale unless someone drops a lot more cash Coley

Re: You don’t see this every day...
I am surprised it only went up to $3050. But, that would take a lot of money to get them all hauled out etc.

Re: You don’t see this every day...
Yeah, the purchase price is just the beginning of the cost. That is what I was considering when I said no more than 5k. Just have to get the seller to see it that way.
In this auction I find this part funny; "Free local pickup"
