why so hard to shift into gear with np205
my friend has a 79 K10 and he has the np205. Why is it so difficult for his tc to shift into any gear? Im 275lbs and I work out and I have one hell of a time trying to force his gears into 4L and 4H. What is going on with that?

Does it have any fluid in it? The shifter may need adjusting.

i dont know how you would adjust the shifter, maybe the bushing on the shift arm has gone bad.
also, have you tried double clutching to get it into 4x? I used to have to do that sometimes with my old Rockwell tcase. or, move the truck forward about a foot to take the tension off the gears. hth

You have to be rolling about 3-5 mph, sometimes you will have to go from reverse to drive (if auto) pop it into neutral and try the t-case again. If you just try to push the lever you will break the shift fork. The gears will get in a bind when doing different things, so you have to get them to unbind.

Manual trans -- step on the clutch. Auto -- try neutral.
