67-72 frame compatibility?

Just how compatible are the 67-72 SWB frames?

I am considering shopping for a rolling SWB frame to rebuild my '67 stepside. I have read they are compatibile but need to know if it is pretty much a direct swap or what may be involved.

If you are talking body/drivetrain swap any year leaf or coil will work. If you're wanting to swap over rear end suspension components for some reason, it's best to stick with a frame with the same rear suspension as you currently have. Though not impossible, it's more work to change a leaf to a coil or vice versa.

I'm swapping a 67 SWB chevy coil truck onto a 72 GMC SWB leaf frame and it's a slam dunk, but I'm not planning on making my leaf frame into a coil one

The 67 frames had a very slight difference in the front around the steering box area. If it was ever a problem, there are several posts on here about how to dimple one slightly for power steering off a post 68 truck.

Good point. I had thought to add that but since it's already a 67 I thought it moot. Ideal situation would be a 71/72 rolling coil chassis --> you'd get disk brakes, 5 lug wheels, and dimpled frame

Another thing with the 67 frames, they are not ready for a big block. On the passenger side fraim rail, there is a small section that turns up....just behinde the lower rad hose on the unside upper portion if the frame rail. I think this is big block fuel pump room, but it isn't on the 67's though.
So we'll say 68 - 72 is all the same. 67 is darn close.

Thanks for the helpful replies, looks like a 71/72 may be the best way to go.

When bolting up a '67 front clip, cab and bed, is there much fabrication required?
