Master cylinder

I have a '66 C10 and I want to mount a full front suspension from a '82 suburban under my truck. this wayI'll have heavy duty discbreaks in front and drum (original 1966) breaks in the back.
I've also got a 63-66 powerbrake conversion drum/drum (Brothers).
So what kind of master cylinder must I use now ? Or can I use a standard master cylinder from a '82 suburban ?

Re: Master cylinder

Pretty sure you will need an appropriate disk/drum proportioning valve to go with the dual master cylinder.

Re: Master cylinder

I would use the master from the '82 since you have it and I imagine finding other parts in the Netherlands may not be easy. Of course this is assuming it is compatible with the booster and such you bought from Brothers. Typically a factory drum/drum booster is designed to use the long intermediate pushrod and most all '73-'87 truck masters are designed to use a short intermediate pushrod. You will also need to use the '82 proportioning valve. If you want to bolt the booster and master assembly correctly to your firewall, let me know. I make the bracket for that. It is not the universal bracket that came with your Brothers booster and master.

Re: Master cylinder

As Captainfab stated, purchase his Vacuum Booster bracket & his Power steering box bracket. You need to space your 82 Suburban Power steering box away from your 66 frame. Also hopefully you kept ALL the pieces from your 82 Donor including the vacuum booster, master cylinder, ALL brake lines and proportioning valve. I was able to reuse ALL the stuff from my 73 donor truck - even the brake lines. I did have to make a bracket for the proportioning valve but I didn't have to cut any of the brake lines to make everything fit. I did have to tweak them slightly to make them line up but only a very slight tweak on my part. I installed all the brake lines but left them loose. once everything was in place I then tightened up all the brake lines. To figure the mounting bracket for the proportioning valve I just cut a piece of coat hanger, bent it to match the angle of my 73 proportioning valve and made my bracket to match that angle. I made my bracket with some 1/8" plate but I'm sure you could make one using some heavy sheet metal and beat it over in a vice if need be.

Did the 73 brake lines go behind the engine cross member or did they mount up in the cross member up front by the radiator?

The brake lines mounted just behind the radiator.
