When did odometers change from 99,999 to 999,999 (ie hundred thou digit included)?
Did an odometer with a 100k digit come out in square era (and when) or was that first seen in GMT400s? Or, more specifically - did an 86 have a 99,999 or 999,999 odometer?
Thanks. |

I believe they change to the 100k odometers in the 1988 model year when they introduced the CK model trucks.

Just to be certain, you’re talking 6 digits not including 10th’s of a mile - so 1st digit is the hundred thousands digit, as in 100k, 200k, etc?
Or, are you mentioning to highlight that diesels went to hundred thousands odometers before gas trucks did? |

I don't know if diesel mattered. I just know the year of these trucks I had with million mile odometer.
My 91 gasser has 6 digit as well.

thats what I needed to know, thx!
If, by chance, it was a diesel only thing - someone please chime in. But I can’t imagine it would be either. |

My 84 k10 came factory with 6.2 but only 5 numbers.
The cluster above is out of about s 2 ton truck, as it has the air gauge, so wondering if that makes a difference from the 1 ton and down? |

does your gauge have Kilometers on it?
dont know about diesel trucks having 6 digits, but i notice all the 6 digits i have seen so far have been metric and imperial. notice obijuan's is metric too. my '85 K30 has 6 digits too, and it's metric, and it's orig to the truck. i changed the 4 small gauges, and the instrument cluster had never been out or touched |

My 89 V3500 has the 5 digit odometer. My 90 suburban (parts truck) has the million mile odometer. The million mile odometer is also an electronic speedo.

Might just be a metric or Canadian thing, but we've had 6 digit odometers since about 83. My old 82 diesel was 5 & the 83 C20 gasser is 6. Its original too
