Question I need some info!

I want buy a nice 1972 chevy C-10 2- wheel drive, truck for my son, preferably a SWB Fleetside, A/C, PDB, Tinted Windows, Cab Lights, Posi-traction, 700R4, ETC. (No Rust out !)

What is the story with "leaf springs verses Coil Springs", "Cheyenne Super verses CST".

Does anyone know someone who has a truck described above for sale ?

i think its gonna be kinda hard to get a 1/2 ton swb with cab lights.

72 was the first year chevy put leafs as the standard for rear suspension. the 67-71 was a trailing arms w/ coil rear suspension. Better for handling if you ask me.
CST was the Cheyenne. they went to Cheyenne in i think 71 correct me if i'm wrong.

you could order the cab lights with any model truck...Randy70C-10 has them on his 1/2 ton. they just arent that common on any truck, but can be installed with the correct roof piece.

what will be hard to find is a truck with a 700r4, as this transmission never came in any truck until the 80s. it is a popular tranny, but I never see many trucks with one for sale.

'73 was the first year for leaf springs to be standard on 1/2 and 3/4 ton Chevy trucks, not '72.

Coil springs provide a much better ride, handling, and traction than leaf springs. Also they do not have wheelhop problems like leaf springs. Leafs are better if you are going to haul heavy loads, but coils surpass them in all other instances IMO.

The Cheyenne package (both regular and Super) was only offered in '71-'72, and the CST option was a '67-'70 deal. Both are higher optioned trucks than the normal base model and Custom trucks.

And as said 700R4's didn't come out in trucks until the '80's so you will have a hard time finding one with the tranny already in it.

Your best bet will be to find a truck close to the one you want and add all of the parts and options you want to it.

I have heard that leaf springs were optional on a Chevy but came standard on a GMC.
I almost purchased a chevy Cheyenne but info stated leaf springs.
It was sold before the owner received my inquiry for more info.

I've also been told that leaf springs were standard on GMCs. If you have a GMC with coils, it would have been a special order. I can't verify this but what I've seen backs it up.

I'm not totally sure on the GMC leaf spring think. I *think* leafs came standard on 6-cylinder models. I have seen three '71 GMC 1/2 tons, all 250/3spd trucks, both with original leaf springs. But my stepbrother had a '70 GMC C20, an original 307/4-speed truck, with a coil-spring Dana 60 rear. It is not special order and is mostly original.

I have only seen two 67-72 Chevies with leafs, one was a '70 SWB C10 (no clue on engine/tranny or options) and the other was a '71 C10 with a 402BB.

What I do know is that I own a1972 chevy SWB fleetside 250 six w 3-speed manual and My Dad bought a new 1970 C-10 BB Auto trans with Posi-rear Both trucks have coil springs. I have never seen a 67-72 Chevy with leaf springs from the factory yet.

Chevy had coil springs standard, GMC had had coils as an option. GMC had leafs as standard, Chevy had leafs as an option.

I'm not sure about 3/4 ton trucks, though. The above is for 1/2 tons afaik.

All 4x4's had leafs.

My 70 chevy short/step came with leafs. 6 cyl/auto 4:11 posi.
But the 6 is long gone!
