GMC radio advice

Looking for source or advice
1956 GMC 100 Napco 4x4 looking to locate radio for new dash repair.
It took like a year to find a good dash, that someone was will to cut the radio section out. just looking at my options I have to install a radio. Anyone have a special place that may have one (radio shop, junkyard, ect.)

it took a year to find a dash....may take longer to find a factory radio someone is willing to part with...check out retrosound and classiccarstereos...there are a few others...they offer correct lookin radios that are all modern behind the faceplate

Talked with Retro-Sound ,Crutchfields .Classic is to much $$$$ just really looking for Am radio, Retro Sound makes nice radios for good $$ but not for GMC and the Chevy one will not fit

10-4.... didn't know you had already checked those out....what is the difference between chevy and gmc?

The radio face on a Chevy has round corners and GMC is square one of a kind .I do believe same AM radio was used in 56-59:

If it were me I would use a block off plate until I found an original radio. be patient these are RARE!! and different than their Chevy brothers. In the mean time, grab a small amplifier, your Ipod and a pair of speakers, or go the hidden route from one of the brands listed above.

Please do not cut the dash.

The usa230 and 630 radios from Retro Auto sound look like the plastic trim pieces are removable.

There are also patch panels for the Chevy trucks, maybe cut and weld the Chevy style in your dash?

if you can find one the 12V tube radios can usually be repaired. I found one embedded in the mud in a wrecking yard in Oregon back in 84. It became garage shelf art till I taught myself to work on tube gear a few years ago. I discovered via my old buddy google that most of them can be fixed with a modern oscillator and a big cap. I did mine and it worked on the first try. I was able to buy a speaker made to fit in the original box that mounts above the mirror. I'm left wondering where I will mount an antennae.

this is the guy, he's older and could retire. His name is Greg. He's a walking encyclopedia of car radio stuff and is reasonable about price.

you might be able to use the chevy patch panel by squaring up the hole with hand tools. no biggie.
