From truck to suburban??

I currently own a 1970 C-20 on air bags. Not the most family friendly vehicle. I’ve owned it for about 7 years now.

I have an opportunity to possibly get a 1972 Suburban, but don’t know if I should.

The suburban does have AC and enough room for the 2 kids, my wife and myself. The truck does not.

Having owned the Truck for 7 years, I’m sorta attached to it.

I’ve attached a couple pictures of my 1970 and a couple pictures of the suburban.

What happened to me after my Burban got on the road was suddenly I became the choice vehicle for anytime the family or friends wanted to go somewhere. Like... Oh can you take us to the airport? Oh! You should come with us so we can all ride in the Suburban.

It depends on what you want. My father had vehicles like Corvettes, Camaros, Novas when I was growing up, not exactly the most room in back when my sister and I got bigger. But for him having a cool vehicle and a loved one riding shotgun was enough. Then again my mom and sister never cared much about the cars so it was usually just my dad and I anyway.

But if you can fit the whole family you might end up driving it more. We never took any of my dad’s classics when we went to visit family, just wasn’t comfortable enough. I can definitely see situations like HO455 mentioned happening. You and others will come up with more opportunities and excuses to take the burb.

Go for it! You will enjoy being able to haul the family, that’s what I like about my Caddy. I don’t take it on long trips since it burns thru the premium pretty quickly. But shorter trips are fun in it. It is the ultimate fair weather airport pick up vehicle, plenty of room and ride in style.

It might be hard to keep the truck too, since you have a newer one for hauling duty.

Now, that's a dilemma! I feel your pain.

Keep them both if you can. If not,...either would be a nice keeper!

Personally, I have always been a sucker for the side moulding and not a big fan of the color red. If I ended up with the burb, there would be some work in the near future. At least adding a trim package and some white in between would break up the color scheme.

To each their own, obviously. But it does beg the question...will one of the trucks require more work than the other and is there any financial gain/loss.

I had a 72 & 70 shortbed but no leg room so I got a 72 sub. It was a BIG vehicle. Sold it for a 71 2 wd Blazer. Smaller vehicle, lots of leg room. Best of both worlds.

Nice looking truck and burb. If I was going to go from a truck to something with more room it would be a c/10 blazer. Two wheel drive and lowered. But that is just me.

Reading the replies, for what I want to do, a blazer would suit my needs more than a suburban.

I wasn’t even looking cause I like my truck. My dad sent me a text with the link to it. Then called a couple days later and asked what my plans are for the truck if the suburban showed up.

Maybe I’ll have a look for a blazer.

The blazers are cool but a pain to get into the back seat if you're hauling family constantly. I've had a couple of square body 'burbs and love them.

I've got one of each at this point. I do like the Blazer but having to deal with the emissions every year is getting old. (& expensive). It's been a good rig though, got it with 78K and now it's at 185k. It is hard to beat for shooting around town and 22 MPG on the highway is nice. The back seat hasn't been vertical in years. I think the family has forgotten it is there. I may go LS transplant but that's not a simple fix either with the DEQ folks around here these days. Plus since my back surgery I can't go more than about an hour on freeway in it. No problems like that in the Burban. I was looking for a 73 to 74 2wd Blazer when I bought the S10. To good of a deal to pass up. So the girlfriend was going to drive it a year and then I would flip it.
