steering column help
Hey guys, I looking for help on my steering column. I have a column from a '73 and up truck but the horn doesn't work. Pulled the aftermarket wheel off and found no horn parts at all. Bought all OE parts but still does not work. My question is I'm missing this spring as in the picture I stole from ROGERKOOP.
Where does to go and how does the concave washer go? Concave go up (towards the wheel) or down? thanks for your help mike

Re: steering column help
Large flat spring installs with the raised center facing up
The spring goes under the black horn contact ring. Is the horn relay located on the firewall above and to the right of the fuse box plugged in? |

Re: steering column help
Subscribed. I am working on the same thing right now except I am using a steering wheel out of a S10 on a later model tilt column in my 67. I can use a jumper wire and I know the horn works but getting all the right parts is proving to be a trick.

Re: steering column help
This is mikes thread but post some pics of what your working with and I'm sure one of us could help you find a solution. Generally if you use the horn contact parts from the donor column and have all the horn parts from whatever steering wheel then it should work.

Re: steering column help
Randy, sorry I have not gotten back to you about my problem. I've tried a couple of local yards, but no columns I could use. I've also tried the parts book but I can't find a part number for one. How in the world do I come up with one?
Mike

Re: steering column help
Hey guys, I'm back working on this problem again. Randy told me to put the spring under the black horn ring. Mine looks a little different, but I think this is correct mike

Re: steering column help
Humm I got mine working but I don't have that fat spring. Got to find one. That would explain it only working in onew spot.
