Re: Parting 71 C30 dually

Hi Fred
New here.
I'm looking for a Eaton HO72 rear axle.
Needs to have the load bolt on the driver side near the pinion and the tapered pinion bearings. Pictures on both sides of the drive shaft will confirm that for me. Also needs to have a 5.14 gear ratio.
If you can verify that for me. I will bring cash and my truck for pick up.
Thanks Dawgy

Does this help? I do NOT think it is 5.14 ratio. Thanks, Fred.

Re: Parting 71 C30 dually

Hi Fred
Yes that helps a lot.
The last picture you can see the nut that locks what looks like a flat bolt.
That is the load bolt.
Also you can see the oil galley next to the vertical rib for the tapered pinion bearings. The roller bearing pinions do not have that. They look the same on both sides of the vertical rib.
What I can't see in the first picture of the Identification sticker probably list the axle ratio.

I hate to ask but would you be able to pop the rear cover and count the ring gear teeth?

If it's listed on the sticker don't bother with the cover hassle.
I would dread a 5.5 hour drive one way just to find out it has the wrong ratio.
This is my all time favorite axle.
Unfortunately you can't just buy a new ring and pinion. They don't make them anymore. What keeps the cost of this axle low is the cost of the rebuild kits are about $700 and hard to find.
Thanks Don

Re: Parting 71 C30 dually

Hey Fred
In some of the pictures there looks like a number 7 stamped into the third member on the oil galley/bulge above the pinion. If you wire brush that or sand it can you see any other numbers?
Thanks Don
