LS 3 600+horsepower
Okay guys putting this LS3 in my 71 Blazer not going to be doing any rock crawling mountain climbing off roading just a beautiful 4 x 4 K5 Blazer what should I do with axles I have a 2008 four by four Chevrolet Sierra frame already cut down to the correct length body fits on it perfect just not sure I want to go this route what other options are there but just doing some minor upgrades to the existing axles that are underneath the vehicle any ideas any suggestions I know this has been gone over many times but like I said I'm not going to be doing any off-roading with this vehicle just a beautiful K5 Blazer.
I have two other Blazers ones a 71 GMC custom completely Rusty the chassis has been completely rebuilt brand new 350 brand new turbo 350 brand new transfer case brakes brake lines fuel lines gas tank everything's been rebuilt I also have a 71 Chevrolet K5 Blazer 100% complete just needs panels replaced in normal areas just kicking this all around I've got a lot of toys I only want one of these Blazers just looking for some suggestions thank you. |

14 bolt rear and dana 60 front would be good upgrade... should handle the power fine...
dana 60 front are hard to come by for a decent price... you could also just upgrade your current front axle to 8 lug to match the 14 bolt... OR Use a 8 to 6 lug adapter on the rear and retain your current wheels etc... if youre not planning on beating it then the front should hold up fine...

If you want a Dana 44 or Dana 60 front axle then I'd stick with the K5 frame.
The Sierra frame has independent front suspension (IFS), right? So if you really want to use the Sierra frame AND a solid front axle you'd need to do a solid axle swap as well. If you want the IFS, then go the Sierra frame, i guess. To me it's just easier to use the K5 frame and do new motor mounts for the LS. |

The stock 1/2 ton Dana 44 and 12 bolt, and Sierra IFS will not last long if you start getting roudy with the go pedal. Neither will your drive shafts. Dana 60 front and 14 bolt rear, and upgrade to 1350 joints in your drive shafts. This is what I run with a well built 400 SBC pushing 475 ft-lbs of torque. I don't know anyone that has some horsepower under the hood that doesn't occasionally open it up. Don't be the guy that grenades undersized driveline components while doing some friendly racing between stop lights.

Agree with Cleszkie - but IF you arent going to take it offroad or otherwise romp on it in 4WD then the D44 front and a D60 or 14bolt rear will work.
And if thats the axle setup you run just keep the K5 frame. |
