Re: New Windshield Installed

I got a new windshield gasket from Steele for my '78 and had a professional bring out a windshield and install it. The gasket fit fine, but was much stiffer than an original, even after laying in the sun on the driveway for hours. The guy had a heck of a time doing the install. A week later I discovered that I had a crack started from one of the corners.

The installer went to a local salvage yard and got an OE gasket in good shape and brought it out with a new windshield. Went in with no problem and I have had zero problem with it. He told me while doing the initial install that you should always reuse the original gasket as long as it isn't torn up. All of the new ones are stiffer than OE.
