AC Belt Alignment problem stock 350
I have a problem with the belt alignment on my stock 350 motor . All the brackets are stock original sbc parts but the AC compressor is off by one groove. Basically it wants to line up with the crank/water pump groove already being used by the alternator. Any ideas what my problem is? Wrong clutch on the compressor maybe? Should the compressor mount in front of the adjusting bracket and not the back?

Move the compressor forward of the bracket.

Your compressor is mounted correctly on the top bracket (it goes behind it). It goes in front of the lower circular shaped bracket. I can’t tell from the pic if yours is mounted correctly on that bracket. From the top pic it looks like it’s behind the circular bracket...it should be sandwiched between them.

Easier to see the brackets in this pic. The big cast (gray) bracket bolts to the engine. The black circular bracket bolts in front of the cast bracket, as shown in the pic. Then your compressor bolts in front of the circular plate. Finally, the slotted top bracket goes in front of the compressor as shown in your pic.

Re: AC Belt Alignment problem stock 350
Thanks guys the pics helped a bunch and its all together. One thing I did run across is the electric connection is very close to the bracket. So close that I had to bend the prongs out to get the connector on. I think I read someone else had this issue as well the original compressors had the electrical connection somewhere around the 11 O'clock position and at least some of the remans are more like 1 or 2 O'clock. At any rate I think its going to be OK.
