68 C10 Front Disc 5 lug conversion

Has anyone used the 2.5 drop conversion kit from ece?
Here’s the link: https://www.earlyclassic.com/node/1211
Seems like a decent value for everything it comes with. Just wondering if those who had purchased it thought the price was worth it, or if there’s a better way for the money, or less money. Also, does this kit utilize discs from a 71 truck? Does it require anything else to make the front a 5 lug? These are all probably noob questions but I’m not very knowledgeable with suspension on these trucks and want to measure twice and cut once. The plan/hope is to purchase this kit and use 2” Springs for a 4.5 front drop. Thank you in advance for any info

Yes that's a good kit. Just keep in mind that if your plan is for a 6" rear drop to go along with the front drop, you will need to c notch the rear frame. On A 2/4 drop, u could get away without the notch. Just sayin'.

Re: 68 C10 Front Disc 5 lug conversion

There are many trucks running ECE 6inch rear drop springs without a notch in the frame.
Ece springs don’t get soft after time like CPP springs do.
I personally have run 2 trucks like this.

Re: 68 C10 Front Disc 5 lug conversion

I have read lots of threads on the subjects and seen posts of yours lolife. I’m going to give 4.5/6 a shot without a c notch and see how that goes. Based on what I’ve seen I should be fine with the good springs and some stiff shocks. I have no doubt I’ll hit bump stops on rough roads or speed numbs but this town doesn’t have many of either. In your experience, do you think 6” springs or do the 2” blocks and 4” sprins would make a better ride? If I find out 6 is just not gonna work in the rear, I’ll remove the lowering blocks and just have the 4” springs and call it a day.

And panhead I’ve considered a 2/4 but have been unable to find pics anywhere of a longbed at 2/4. I think these longbeds either need to be up high or down low and with large wheels and tires. Anything in between and they look odd imo.

Re: 68 C10 Front Disc 5 lug conversion

I'm running all ECE drop spindles/springs, rear drop springs,C-notch, track bar, KYB shocks and rear shock relocation kit. All total for about a 4.5/6 drop.

Works nice.

Was a c notch a necessity? Or for peace of mind

...Also a tow hitch and this truck easily will haul small load, maybe 500-1000 pounds, so yeah it's gotta be there!

Re: 68 C10 Front Disc 5 lug conversion

When I bought my 2 1/2 dropped spindles I wanted 2 inch springs also. The tech I spoke with recomended 1 1/2 front springs. He asked if I planned to drive the truck often that the 2 in. springs could be too low. Went with his idea and it works great.Cut the front snubbers in half and been hammering it for 10 years.Removed rear springs and put 2500 lbs airbags for a 4/6 drop.I would highly recommend ECE products.

Does this require a notch or will the bags keep the rear end up?

Re: 68 C10 Front Disc 5 lug conversion

I didnt Cnotch mine.If you measure above the center section you can only gain about 1 inch before the center hits the bed floor.I also put NO LIMIT shock relocation brakets and panhard bar.most people run rolling sleave bags on the rear Look up MAKE IT HANDLE thread.Lots of good info for these old trucks.

Re: 68 C10 Front Disc 5 lug conversion

I did the ECE 4.5/6 drop kit, and was impressed with the parts. No c-notch on my truck. No problem with it bottoming out, but I don't carry much weight in the bed. I recommend calling ECE to talk about your plan, they are helpful.

Re: 68 C10 Front Disc 5 lug conversion

I have the ECE 4.5" disc conversion on my 69. 2" springs. I will be getting ANOTHER set of 2" big block springs when I do that swap.

In the rear I have a DJM leaf spring flip that netted about 7" drop. I did not C-notch and mostly it is not a problem. I put the small (3/4"?) urethane bumpstops on the frame and that mitigates most of the impact. With just 6" drop I'm thinking you will have no (or small) issues.

This is what I was hoping to hear. I really do not want to notch and if I do I’d have to go the expensive way instead of bolt on. My truck has the trailing arms and coil springs so hopefully it’s the same.
