Turn Signal/Brake light issue
I recently rewired my 71 chevy c10 using the american auto wire classic update kit and I'm having an issue with my brake lights. when i turn on my right blinker only not my left i blow the fuse for my brake/courtesy lights. When i first put my column back together i forgot to put my cancelling came back in and would blow the brake fuse immediately when i pushed the brakes. Putting the cancelling cam back in corrected that short but still have the other. Could there be some type of insulating part I,m missing? During my trouble shooting i pulled the turn signal switch out of the column and the problem goes away (turn signal switch is new).

Re: Turn Signal/Brake light issue
Look for a pinched wire that would be making contact when the switch is installed, i.e., where the harness comes out at the bottom of the mast jacket.

Re: Turn Signal/Brake light issue
The cancelling should have no impact on what you're experiencing other than not cancelling after making a turn. You've got a pinched or bare wire

Quote:
If you unplug the turn signal switch harness on the column and do a continuity check to ground on the right turn signal light wire. You can tell if the harness is grounded. Since you have removed the switch and no longer blow the fuse, it points to the TS switch. I would speculate that it isn't a wire that is shorted to ground but that you have something missing or installed improperly in the switch itself.
