Tired of trans pan leaking
I have a turbo 350 and the pan keeps leaking. So i am done with the stick pan and looking to get an aluminum one. What is the best pan for the money?
Thanks Chris

Re: Tired of trans pan leaking
Sure it's the pan? Sometimes there are other small leaks that transfer down to the pan area that can be misleading

Re: Tired of trans pan leaking
I put this on my trans when I had it rebuilt, works great no leaks. However, I would use a gasket with the steel insert in it instead of the cork one. Also, the extra fluid won't hurt. Its not the cheapest pan out there, but buy one cry once.

Re: Tired of trans pan leaking
I use to get what seemed like 100% leak rate. I then got a 1/4 torque wrench, and now no more leaks

Re: Tired of trans pan leaking
The TP Cable O Ring is notorious for seeping fluid & will manifest it's self on the pan flange.

Re: Tired of trans pan leaking
I had one bolt in the pan that was stripped out, helicoil is now installed and getting a new bolt. The big issue I have noticed is a large spot on the garage floor from sitting a week or so. I am thinking it is the pan. I had a rubber gasket, that will be replaced with cork.

Re: Tired of trans pan leaking
I have the B&M pan mentioned above. Very solid unit. I've used it with a cork gasket and had no leaks. Correct torque is key with cork gaskets.
By the way I had the same issue with my trans leaking after sitting a few days. My leak was coming from a hole in the slip yoke. Threw some silicone on it, and stopped it. Now the only leak I have is from the speedometer bullet, haven't been able to fix that one.

Re: Tired of trans pan leaking
Get one of these cast aluminum pans and you will never have another pan gasket leak. That's because the gasket surface is very thick and won't warp like a stamped sheet metal pan. They're available from a kazillion vendors.

Re: Tired of trans pan leaking
Mine came with a cork gasket, but fibrous rubber would be nice. I wouldn't use sealant with any of them because the gasket will want to move around.

Re: Tired of trans pan leaking
Yes, definitely no sealer/silicone......it acts like a lubricant when wet....makes the gasket slip out sideways

Re: Tired of trans pan leaking
My turbo350 would leak after sitting a few days. It wound up being the kick down cable o ring. I replaced it Nd the dipstick tube o ring. New filter and pan gasket no more leak.

Re: Tired of trans pan leaking
I had leak issues with a TH350 in my Model A HotRod. After installing an aluminum pan like the one posted above and a gasket from Lube Locker, there's not a hint of fluid leak. I also changed the shift shaft seal, save yourself time and buy the correct tool for changing the seal.
Lube Locker gasket............. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/l...g350/overview/

Re: Tired of trans pan leaking
Trans pan installed. Leaking worse than ever. It is leaking between the two (2) front bolts of the pan. I put the rubber gasket on here it came with. Did not have time to order a better one. But in 2 hours there was a 12" dia. puddle under the truck. The other issue is this is the third time I had this pan off in 2 years and now I have three holes stripped. Helicoils installed so we are good. Should I just put coils in all the holes?

Re: Tired of trans pan leaking
2 front bolts?
Front pump o ring? Torque converter shaft seal? Cracked case? Iv'e seen a lot of leaks up front sling around by the torque converter, then drip after vehicle sits over night. Brake clean it off and watch it...

Re: Tired of trans pan leaking
The two front bolts of the pan. I torqued to 10 ftlbs. I did not check the vent. I was in a rush last night. Could this cause the pan to leak? It is defiantly coming from the pan. I will check that. What about getting that fancy gasket from summit?

Re: Tired of trans pan leaking
The hot air in the case needs to go somewhere.
If the vent is plugged the hot high air pressure will push out gaskets. |

Re: Tired of trans pan leaking
Bolt holes shouldn't be striping unless they're over torqued. I believe their supposed to be 35 inch pounds

Re: Tired of trans pan leaking
Every where I saw was 10-13 ftlbs. So I did 120 inchlbs just to use my smaller wrench. I looked at multiple sites. No telling what I did to this thing years ago, It was on my original engine and had it freshened up 4,000 miles ago.
