So I just ordered a rivet kit for my vent windows from LMCTruck. BrothersTrucks was out of stock. It is supposed to come with everything, pivot rivets, wing rivets, and the punch tool to install. BrothersTrucks.com has a really nice video on installing these start to finish so I plan to follow that. I won't get to mine for a couple weeks as I am currently doing bodywork and about to throw down some paint next weekend. So any tips you might have would be much appreciated!!

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

During the inside cab re-sand I had them go ahead and fill all the seams in the door jambs. I think they turned out really clean. I've got to stop finding more things to do or this thing will never get painted.

Step away from the truck... Ha I joke. Now is certainly the time to get what you want otherwise you will always wish you had. Somethings can be done in the future but not that. They do look very clean.
You may have posted before but what door seals are you going with, I don't remember?

You are right Dave. I need to just stay away.

On the seals I tried the Civic seals first. Loved the fit, but didn't like the unfinished look on the inside of the cab. I now have the new precision seals, but I'm sure they are going to require the slamming of the doors. We are going to put them in the paint booth when the heat is cranked up for the paint to try to soften them some before we install them. I'll keep you posted on how they work once we get her back together.

That's what I thought. these must be the "clip" on versions? I will be interested to see the pictures of them on.

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

Dave - yes, they are the press on versions. I'll keep you posted on how well they fit.

I worked on my vent windows this weekend. Figured out the rivets and was moving along really well until I went to put the pivot rivets in. Seems the special place I put them so they wouldn't get lost didn't work out so well as there was only one there. I turned the garage upside down with no luck. Guess I will order two more.

I did order the Hooker Blackheart exhaust system. Hopefully, that works. Anyone here use it on their truck?

I appreciate you taking the time to look through it. Glad you like it and I really like hearing from others as it is great motivation.

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

This was supposed to be my weekend project, but I couldn't wait to see how this kit fit. Opened up the box and upon inventory of the parts I found two brackets were missing. Called Holley and they are sending them out. Just used zip ties for mock up.

First impression is very good on the quality of the welds and overall appearance of the system. I finger tightened the brackets to the frame and started hanging. Within 10 minutes I had the system installed (no clamps etc.). Can't believe how well it fits. I will have to figure out the connection to the Speed Engineering headers, but they line up nicely. Would absolutely recommend this kit. I went with the 2.5" exhaust.

Here are a couple shots of the rear exit. They make this kit with an option side exit. I won't do final adjusting obviously until the body and bumper is on.

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

Wrapped up the vent windows this weekend. I think the hardest part was installing the new glass. Overall they went together pretty nicely and the re-chrome was worth the wait.

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

Those exhaust brackets for the rear are superb. And re-chroming the vent windows turned out really nice. I just cleaned mine up, polished them with fine grit roloc disk. They looked pretty good till I see yours lol. I will have to buff mine now to get the shine out of them. Nice job!

Which vent window handles did you go with?

Did those exhaust hangers come with the kit? They're probably the most robust hangers I think I've seen.

They did. They are way over done, but I think they designed them that way so they would use existing holes in the frame so you don't have to drill new ones. I'll paint them red and they will disappear a little.
