Re: '89 3/4T 'burb front-end swap to '66 C20

Nice to hear from you ron!

I don't know what caused the dent. I bought them that way. The doors are temporary replacements from a donor truck. The originals are off the truck and are being restored. The original driver's side is stripped down to the metal and the passenger side is de-dented, POR-15'ed on the inside of the cavity and primed and ready for paint prep on the outside steel.

Re: '89 3/4T 'burb front-end swap to '66 C20

Thanks for a great write up!

Unfortunately, living in the UK means there is not a plethora of later model trucks that the suspension can be pirated from so I am using your guidance to remove and restore the original cross member and suspension.

Now have the confidence to tackle the job as it looks fairly simple.

Hope your health is holding up and you are getting to enjoy the fruits of your labour!

You men are awesome! I want to say thank you! This is the best, most informational and well put 60's to 73-87 crossmember/suspension thread on the Internet. I'm to the point now in my truck building and junk part collecting where I've ran out of stuff to work on. Been thinking of what I could build next with the parts I've collected over the years. And this is gonna be it I guess. I've got two 1965 c-10 SWB big window custom cabs that are just rollers ( saved them from the scrap yard) they are in pretty rough shape. I have a 1983 c10 rolling chassis with the 350-350 turbo still on it. So I'm guessing this ole boy is gonna piece together a TRUCK!! Man is my wife gonna be happy when she hears these plans! Thanks again -Dylan

Just have to express my thanks to you guys as well. Well documented and great information. I actually found this post a few months ago and printed it all off and put in a binder with other articles I've saved. great reference.
Thanks again.

for those of you that do a lot or a little wondering what will work will find most of it answered in this link, even though it takes a little effort on your part.

Re: '89 3/4T 'burb front-end swap to '66 C20

Any '73-'86 C series or '87-'91 R series front suspension will work as they are all basically the same. The one thing to look out for is the rotors are either 1" thick (light duty) or 1.25" thick.
