What happened to the post " whose got all the hickey parts stashed?"
I received notification of a new post since I follow this thread. I click the link and it says I don't have rights to view the thread and it doesn't come up when searching. What happened to it? Can it be deleted by anyone other than mods? It was seven pages at least
I get this notice |

The reason you can't access it is that there was way too much want to buy, want to trade, and for sale going on in the thread by non-paying members that it was canned. Too bad because it was a good thread. That illustrates how a few people that don't read and/or follow the rules can screw up a good thread..... Also, any parts that Premium members have for sale or trade need to be posted in the appropriate classified forums. LockDoc

Re: What happened to the post " whose got all the hickey parts stashed?"
That really is too bad because it was a good source of the number of products that they produced and sold. It was a good archive for reference. Any chance someone could edit out only the offending posts? To recover all of that information someone would have to start another thread and then that would also be subject to the same abuse. Really too bad and a loss for documenting the Hickey history. This one is NOT for sale!

I think there was also some offers to buy or sell through PM's and that is also against board rules. Any member that buys or sells parts through PM's are on their own if they get ripped off. If they buy stuff through the proper channels the board Administrators will try to help get it resolved.... Thanks, LockDoc

Re: What happened to the post " whose got all the hickey parts stashed?"
I thought it got canned for poor grammar. It should read "Who's", as in "who has" and not "whose"
Someone could always start a new thread making it clear that the thread is not posted in the for sale board and no sales are to be conducted as a result of the thread.

"Pleez downt not nevr do nutin like tham thear wurds thar, pleez." But seriously, there are already rules governing how we all conduct ourselves on here so no need to make a "special" thread that people won't abuse. I want that Hickey thread back, so if anyone can put in time editing it I would really appreciate that effort. Thanks in advance for that work.

I hadn't read any of the original Hickey thread so I sat down last night and read the whole thing, all 7 pages.... Wow, It's pretty obvious that a LOT of the posters in that thread have never read, or choose to completely ignore, the "rules governing how we all conduct ourselves on here". The only way I can see this thread coming back is to make it a "special" thread that people "can't" abuse. I will work on it. It will take me a while because the weather is nice here and I will be spending a lot of time outdoors and in the shop..... Thanks, LockDoc

Re: What happened to the post " whose got all the hickey parts stashed?"
Something along these lines is what I had in mind:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=751124 Just to save Leon the trouble. 1931 views and so far so good. Not a single PM here. To me the title to the Hickey one might have helped draw in predators. If it was worded more like "Let's see those Hickey parts", or other, it might have helped.

Re: What happened to the post " whose got all the hickey parts stashed?"
Bumping from the dead. Hey moderators can we edit this old post or pictures from it. Some nice model numbers etc. I have quite a collection I’m going to be posting pics of. But don’t want the ‘Matt’ show. Would like to see other’s stuff too. Would a Hickey traders thread pass muster?

Just start a new thread, but be adamant about following rules, you will be the thread owner and be responsible for managing it and should contact a moderator when necessary

I will take a look at that thread again. When I checked it out before I think I determined that it would take a lot of work to resurrect it in a fashion that it wouldn't turn into a "for sale, want to buy, PM sales" free for all again. It may be a day or two. LockDoc

Re: What happened to the post " whose got all the hickey parts stashed?"
Why not just penalize the posters which are breaking the rules not everyone who is enjoying the shared information?

I'm betting that won't work. After the THIRD warning in the original thread there were seven posts in two weeks wanting to buy, sell, or trade Hickey parts. That is when the thread was canned..... LockDoc

Part of the problem being that we don't have the moderator resources to constantly follow a thread like that and keep it clean. Plus the problem of all the PM sales which are against board rules. LockDoc

Re: What happened to the post " whose got all the hickey parts stashed?"
Any way we could delete the offending posts and make it a locked sticky in the 4x4 section? at least that way the resources in that thread with part numbers and pictures and such could still be used. I vaguely remember the thread and how useful it was.
