Help With Lights?
this is for my '64, but I'm guessing the wiring is the same...
So... My turn signals work, but only when the headlights are on. My brake lights and parking lights don't work at all. When the headlights are off, the turn signal flasher still sends juice to the bulb, but only enough to barely light it up (not visible through the lens). Any thoughts? Could be my headlight switch? Sounds like a poor ground. Check to see if the bed has a bonding wire going to the frame anywhere, if not, attach one and your lighting problem will likely go away. You can just use some 10 ga. primary wire with terminal lugs crimped to both ends.

Start with a new ground wire, see what that does. Don't even bother looking to see if the stock one is there. installing a new onw will remove all doubt.

chances are if it has a wood bed, you need that ground, if not that I would check to see if there is corrosion in the sockets, is it a real rats nest of wiring in the 64?

No, Surprisingly the wiring is in great shape. I cleaned the sockets with a wire brush when I checked the bulbs, and even replaced one. I haven't gotten around to trying the ground yet, been busy welding the patches into the door handles. I'll try that first thing today tho.
