2001 K1500 vs K2500HD: Air Cleaner and ducting differences?
Am looking at an 01 2500HD with a 6.0/4L80E - a po has installed a cold air intake, unsure if he used an original MAS or an aftermarket one. Would a 1500's 5.3L stock air cleaner box and ducting be the exact same size and shape as a 2500HD's? I'm assuming all is the same except the MAS, which I'd assume would be calibrated differently between a 5.3 and 6.0 (or would they?)? Anyone know? Thanks. My 1500 is nearing 300k mi, and need another dependable dd, but prefer a 3/4 ton - so am wondering about swapping the stock air cleaner assembly and filter box onto the 2500 HD I'm considering. Just prefer stock and stock parts, would probably stick the cold air intake on the 1500 until it literally drops dead, which may not be for another 200k... Have owned it since new - but things are starting to "go" and would rather have "dd next" in the barn ready to go so I'm not crammed when this one eventually kicks the bucket.
Thanks for any insight. |

Re: 2001 K1500 vs K2500HD: Air Cleaner and ducting differences?
My 2005 2500HD has a filter box from a 1500. I use the high capacity dirtymax Delco air filter.
Not sure whether GM used a different MAF between the 5.3 & the 6.0 or not. The Air Raid CAI my truck came with used the stock MAF, clamp, and retaining ring. I kept the Air Raid intake tube but went to the OEM filter housing.

Re: 2001 K1500 vs K2500HD: Air Cleaner and ducting differences?
There was only one MAF used on 2001 gas trucks. They are all interchangeable. There is only 1 listing for 4.3, 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, and 8.1 trucks. GM part # 19330121.
I did not check other years. |

Re: 2001 K1500 vs K2500HD: Air Cleaner and ducting differences?
Awesome, thanks gents, appreciate the info. If the MAS is the same then I think it's safe to assume the air cleaner box and ducting are all the same also. Unfortunately, this 01 2500HD I made an offer on this morning sold a little bit earlier today (apparently the sales person I was talking to didn't know it yet. Go figure). Anyway, good info that I will keep in my back pocket, thanks again for the help as always. Getting hard to find a low mile 01-02 K2500HD in decent shape... Don't have room where I work for a crew cab, but the search continues for an extended or reg cab.

Re: 2001 K1500 vs K2500HD: Air Cleaner and ducting differences?
Just checking in - that was the engine air induction system that I designed.
Same MAF all the way through; It's the same air cleaner assembly for all engine options, with different ductwork to attach to the various throttle body locations. The HD option (K47) was standard for the "big" engines and then optional on the smaller ones. One final comment: the system was sized for the highest engine airflow combinations (ie, 1" Hg restriction from ambient air intake to the throttle body opening, at max flow of 272 g/s) so the system greatly overachieves from a flow perspective for the smaller cubic inch displacements. The basic system is still in use today. K

Great info, thanks Keith. Didn’t buy this one but just bought an 8.1 instead
