68 Golden Anniversary pickups, interest in them, etc...

Who owns, works on, used to own, has an interest in Golden Anniversary pickups.

I bought mine by accident in 1980, was just wanting an old pickup (of course it had to be a Chevrolet....)

The board is gauging interest in them, maybe for a specific sub section topic area for them.

I've seen bunches of different versions of them, here. One is a 9' bed step side, seen a few small block V-8 versions, not a lot of 396's like mine!!!

I'd like to know more about them. They seem to have been built in many different ways. The 2018 100 year anniversary pickups, ONLY

Speak up!!!

Re: 68 Golden Anniversary pickups, interest in them, etc...

I like them a lot. They are very special. When I was looking for my keeper that was one of my preferred options.

An interesting observation I have made is that it seems to be an unusually high percentage of anniversary trucks seem to have a 327 or 396, and corresponding “GM” choke delete compared to other 68’s.

I love my 68 50th anniversary truck. Still has original paint, black plates, and I have warranty card/protecto plate, owners manual, and dealer issued sales kit which has a TON of info and pics, memorabilia, etc.

I have interest. If one ever came my way in semi-original condition I'd probably buy it. I'm a 67 68 nut though. Never owned a 69 up.

I always liked the gold with white interior on the trucks and cars. I had a ;70 truck in those colors, never had a 50th, but did build a '68 with the 50th paint scheme... but did black interior because it already had that when it was red.

I have no interest in them at all....obsession is a more accurate description.

The '68 Anniversary is my favorite of these trucks.

If I had unlimited funds, I would have a restored '68 Anniversary Model.

Was the 455/1AA paint available without the interior fabric? I found it as a $46 dollar paint option on the list, and have seen it in slightly different variations. Maybe different depending on overall trim level? And/or did different plants apply the scheme differently? Would be interesting to know if they were manufactured throughout the model run, or if they were built in one program similar to how Chevrolet did the pace car models for the Camaro's.

Just curious....

A stock(ish) 1968 anny should have been the 2018 truck ad truck. They're awesome. I won't ever buy another but that's a good choice if I did.

I love the 50th's too. I think Suburbans, Steps, and all models in pick ups could be in this color. I think only fleet sides had the white bottom paint though.

Vans and El Caminos could come in this color too as I recall.

I have a 1968 promotional presidential button collection that commemorates the 50th anniversary.

I was disappointed Chevy didn't work a 50th anniversary truck into their recent promotion too.

this thread needs a poll! don't have one, may never have one, but then can't have everything

I would be substantially more interested in reading about these and looking at pictures than some of the other topics on the forum..

these models represent a landmark in GM truck production and should be celebrated..

good luck getting admin approval for a sub forum, I would be watching!

I think the 50th trucks are very special. I’m still sick I didn’t end up with that 9 foot step 50th. It was loaded up with options too.

I think if we have a sub category for these trucks, then why not the Feathers package, or Highlanders, Longhorn, etc.

The GM logo choke delete plate was part of the Custom & Convenience and Custom Sport Truck packages that also upgraded the carb to electric choke along with their other interior & exterior upgrades on the 68's according to the factory literature I was reading from the GM Heritage Center on the 1968 trucks. Not sure if it did this on the 67's too. I would guess more Golden Anniversary trucks are more heavily optioned and have the C&C or CST option.

I haven't read any documentation that listed what was part of the Golden Anniversary package. Maybe it included the C&C or CST stuff as part of it.

Re: 68 Golden Anniversary pickups, interest in them, etc...

The 50th Anniversary was a special paint and interior trim deal and that's it. It could be that they were only on Customs and CSTs because base models didn't have trim to divide the paint scheme and they had metal door panels with one piece seating surfaces.

First of all, I don’t know this to be “fact” (I don’t know everything). BUT... This leads me to believe the choke delete was tied to engine selection rather than trim level.

Yeah it’s just paint and trim, but isn’t it COOL!?!

I got a 50th 68 but some jack wagon repainted it some copper color. They didn’t touch the interior which is the only way you can tell it’s a 50th paint scheme

Re: 68 Golden Anniversary pickups, interest in them, etc...

They weren't something I learned about until after I joined this board. I really like the look. A local member had one for sale a long time ago. I went and checked it out, K20 version, but it was mostly not there. Cab shot (really really shot), box shot, and no front clip. I got it cheap though so I grabbed it up for a "maybe someday" project. ended up tossing the cab, but kept the tins. Tossed the suspension and box. All I had left was bare frame, tins, and clear title in my name. I also have the build sheet, don't remember if he gave it to me, or I found it in all the junk. Several months ago I sold the chassis to a board member that needed some parts off of it. So now there is zero chance of me owning a complete numbers matching top to bottom with build sheet 68 Anniversary truck. However everything I still have I can keep in a drawer, er I think its in a drawer, maybe a box somewhere?

As far as having a sub forum for them ... I vote no. Its getting crowded around here =)

I was just looking at that thread by the newest owner. A pretty unusual pickup. I wonder if he's gotten to work on it yet???

Re: 68 Golden Anniversary pickups, interest in them, etc...

Back in 1984 when we moved down to Phoenix from Maine (Dad got transferred in his company at the time) Our trucks were available all over the place out here. Dad happen to find a really clean '68 Golden anniversary 3/4t 2wd with the original 327 and TH400 for sale in a shady used car lot. Paid $1500 and drove it home. Engine was tired, but started and ran well. I won many a red light races in that truck. I went into the Air Force and my brother took it over for a few years then it was sold to someone in Vermont. We actually got some parking pickets the new owner earned up there, but the new owner never registered into his own name. That truck was nice, has most of the bells and whistles we all like, factory AC etc etc. It was a shame my brother sold it, but we have a few pictures of it sitting around.

I'll let you start the poll!!! I do well to get logged in when my computer DOES remember my pass word!!!

It's pretty cooll that Chevrolet did this to commemorate their 50th year of making trucks!!!! NOT just trucks, but the very best trucks ever made!!!

I just bought my good friends 2005 1/2 ton SWB 2WD pickup from him, a few months before he passed away. I helped him pick it out when he bought it new.
I was getting it insured through my agent. She asked what brand it was. I told her, it's a Chevrolet, what other brands of pickups do they make???? She was young and clueless...
