Re: whats my front axle?

dana covers all have the same shape just get bigger .

corp 10 bolt have ear's on the bottom . and a rounded cover shape over the dana shape style .

corp didnt use the gear ratio tags on the 1 bolt for the cover like dana did unless rusted off or left off in a past service .

also the 1 pic shows 44-?? cast in the 1 web = dana 44 model center section .

skip the gasket and grab a tube or ultra black rtv . same basic price / instock / works better . i have a dana 60 now that leaks oil with a brand new spicer gasket on it and both surfaces were 100% clean and flat .

Re: whats my front axle?

If you decide to use a gasket sealer, I'd recommend Permatex 81182. It's made specifically for use with gear oil.
You can use it in lieu of a gasket, but I prefer to use a thin coat on both sides of a gasket.
I've had leaks with other stuff but no leaks using this.

Re: whats my front axle?

make model and year would usually be more helpful in determining axle identification, but this one sure looks like a Dana..

here's some other posts with pictures, dimensions, and other tells to help identify exactly what it is..

to paraphrase, the Dana case model is cast in one of the corners and the gear ratio is stamped on a tag..

good luck!

Re: whats my front axle?

It's a Dana 44 look on the 4th pic you can see 44F all Dana rears are stamped like that to identify them as to what model they are

Re: whats my front axle?

Thanks everyone for the replies.
It is stamped 44-8F, but the gasket they ordered for me is not correct so I ended up just using a permatex gasket sealant. Hopefully it doesn't leak.

As far as the year, make, and model. Its a 1977 Chevrolet K10, which if im correct is the first year of the Corporate GM front end. The P.O. said it was a corporate Gm, that's why I was asking.

Thanks again everyone.

Re: whats my front axle?

It could be confusing as both Corp 10 bolt and Dana 44 have a 10 bolt cover
