Re: Wheel Cylinder help
Usually the only thing that holds on the front ones is the big bolt that is also the upper brake shoe mount and where the return springs attach.

Re: Wheel Cylinder help
Depends on what width the brake shoes are....
1/2 ton units use a large bolt thru the wheel cylinder to locate the wheel cylinder...shoes on these units are 11"in diameter and 2" in width The 3/4 ton units use 11 5/32" diameter brake drums with shoes that are 2 3/4" wide and use cylinders with two small locator bolts thru the backing plate... Remove the brake hose from the back of the wheel cylinder Remove the brake drum Remove the brake shoes...(note their width!) Remove the large bolt at top of backing plate and any other thru bolts securing the backing plate to the spindle. Once the backing plate is off, remove the small bolts securing the wheel cylinder in place. Reverse for installation ... BTW...Always best to do both sides front cylinders at same time... Also, consider replacing those old rubber hoses while you have them out. Note ! Make sure the bleeder nipple is long enough in the new cylinder to permit easy bleeding...so many new cylinders nowadays have short bleeders making the job more difficult. Hope this helps

Re: Wheel Cylinder help
Thanks for the input all I believe looking at the bolts more and more if I remove the brake line it would give me enough room to get the other wheel cylinder bolt loose.

Re: Wheel Cylinder help
Remove the steel brake pipe from the brake hose at the chassis end...then the little clip that locks the rubber hose into the bracket...then undo the hose at the cylinder...
Otherwise, it will twist that old rubber hose up and you will never get it back into the cylinder... I usually put new hoses on as a safety item when doing wheel cylinders...
