Took the GMC for a drive yesterday and noticed that the washer pump had finally given up. Been looking at options online. What do you recommend - replacement pump in the 67-72 style or a replacement electric pump? If the latter, which model did you go with?

Mine gave up the ghost last year after decades of service. Considering the difficult access, and having read some threads about replacements being unreliable, I took the easy way out. Got a p/n TRI 11-100 at Oreilly's and mounted it next to the washer bottle. Works great, inexpensive, and will be easy to replace next time. Only difference is it's a steady stream instead of squirt, squirt, squirt like the factory pump.

Does anyone rebuild the wiper motors with washer pumps too? My 67 wiper motor just kicked the bucket.

Best solution is visit local yard and get a small GM washer jug with pump. Wire it to the factory pump and forget it.

I don't know of any one that offers the motor with a pump. LMC shows a washer pump available but I have not used it. I replaced a motor (Cardone 40-154) for a customer about 6 months ago & used a washer pump rebuild kit, don't have the P/N. The wiper motor failed (washer pump still going). Replaced it yesterday under warranty, the replacement failed while I was checking operation after installation. Waiting on a third motor (with no confidence it will be good!)

If the third one fails I'm going to try one of the new ones offered on Amazon (at my expense) I'm not sure sure about the new ones because they are probably chinese. I've been doing this a while, at this point I trust no parts, new or reman!

I added this pump from O'reillys. Generic for GM I think, less than $20. It is a stream as opposed to a "squirt-squirt" type, but works great. Quiet too because the pump in not in the cab.

Norcal has best choice for a w/s washer pump.

I will post a pic here later of a pump in a reservoir, it's universal setup used on medium and heavy duty trucks...

It's been 20 years since I sold auto parts, but...we sold anco wiper products, they offered new washer pump (yes, the kind that attach to the motor, just like the originals), and they offered washer pump rebuild kits. Might inquire with local parts store, things are much different now though...

B.W. make sure your pump is grounded. Some pumps have a think copper strap attached to the pump that runs to one of the attaching bolts, also make sure there's no rust or dirt (or paint) under that bolt.

Yeah, I checked the grounds on the motors before I installed them (and after). There's one grommet that stays with the motor because the ground strap is sandwiched underneath the metal ferrule. I have measured high resistance/open on these grounds before. IMO, not a great way to ground the motor.

One advantage I liked was getting the washer motor out from under the dash, that is a pain to get to if there are problems, especially with AC. Here is a great write up that I went by:

I can vouch for that -- it's the exact pump I mentioned in post #2 above.

i needed something quick, living seattla wa, i went to auto zone and purchased an after market cost $16 mounted it over the fender wall added a toggle switch for now til nwxt summer

Checking the ground is a good idea. I've monkeyed with the wiper motor before and it isn't a fun job for a big guy like me.

Yeah, not a GM, but I love it. 1969 GMC 32,000 - fix, drive, relax, fix... 2019 BMW R1250 GSA - Yahoooooooo 1979 Honda GL 1000 - retro touring at its best. Past: '05 Sierra 4x4 - Had 270,000 KM and running well when it was written-off by a stop sign runner. '94 F-150 from the "F word" company. I'll admit it...good truck. Sold what was left of it for $800 to a guy who came to pick it up at 11:00 PM with cash in hand. Hmm. '79 Sierra Grande (Black) organ donor - perfect rebuildable 4-bolt 350 and a good TH350. '76 Sierra Grande (Orange) - hate isn't too strong a word. Kid who bought it turned it into a hot rod. '68 C-10 R.I.P. - Dad's old truck...too far gone to resurrect. '59 C-50 - with hoist. Truck is gone, wife isn't. Nuff said.

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
