Rear disc conversions

Is there a Rear Disc Brake conversion kit available, that will either bolt on or weld onto a 67-72 rear axle? There’s a bunch of different kits for the front, but I haven’t found a decent Rear Kit that doesn’t cost an “arm and a leg”.
If there’s not a kit, is there an Disc Brake Equipped axle that’s very close to the same width?

All ive ever seen. Id go 3, not 5. I havent converted because the front does 3/4 the braking so i just cant justify dropping tgat kind of coin

Re: Rear disc conversions

Captain fab makes the rear brackets to work with the Cadillac calipers found on the mid 1970 rear disc calipers. I did this same conversion and it works great. Another option is on eBay a guy sells the complete rear kits for around 350$,

Re: Rear disc conversions

I did this upgrade last year. Was very easy and under $400 for the complete kit
You don't have to pull the axles
Make a huge difference in braking and no messing around with drums any more
Bought the kit from
Little Shop Manufacturing in tennesee
Great customer service
Here's the link for our trucks.

Re: Rear disc conversions

Super easy and works great.
They suggest Using a 4" cutting wheel to cut out a pie section of the backing plate.
Whole job took and afternoon
Here is their install directions

Re: Rear disc conversions

OK thanks, that's kinda what I figured. To me it's super easy to pull the c clips out and keep the old backing plates.

Those instructions for setting the rear brakes are better than the ones that come with the CPP kits and they are the same brakes.
Thanks for posting this.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Rear disc conversions

It looks like I asked a question that a few others were wondering.
Thanks for all the feedback, and so quick.
Now. Is there a kit out there with Six Bolt pattern rotors.
I know that might be “a bridge too far”, but I have to ask.

Re: Rear disc conversions

Rayce88, that looks great. I used the same setup from Captfab and was easy and cheaper. I found the calipers off a c5 vette in the wrecking yard and new rotors and rubber brake lines from Rockauto.

Re: Rear disc conversions

Thanks ... I found a used set of impala ss calipers local and new rotors from rockauto ... Used Moser 5lug conversion axles and the impala rotors fit perfect with no modifications ... I bought new brake lines from inline tube and bent the ends in a curve and welded line tabs I picked up from a local round track speed shop to the axle ... I might have 250-300 in the brake setup not including the Moser axles ...
