Support suburban body

I’m planning to separate my suburban body from the frame this weekend. I am going to leave to body on jackstands in the driveway while I work on the frame in the garage. My thinking was to run 4x4 timbers between the body and frame, support those on the ends with jack stands, and lower/roll the frame out from under. Has anyone else done it this way? Anything I should be cautious of?

Re: Support suburban body

I don't like using jack stands for this kind of support, When I was building drag cars we had stands we welded up to support bodies, frames or about anything on. There were about 24" tall 3' box tube with 18" square 3/8 thick plates on the bottom and a saddle in the top to hold a 4X4 or box tube. They were very stable. Was just to easy to tip over jack stands.

Re: Support suburban body

I've done it that way. I've also built a cart and put it on wheels. I recommend this method because you will want to move it at some point and this allows you to do it by yourself.

Here's the set up I had my old Studebaker on. I later cut the cart down and it allowed me to work on the body too while it was on the cart.

You can get car wheel dollies and a couple 4x4’s if the surface is smooth.

I have also made metal carts with angle iron, bolted at the ends and used this 10” pneumatic tires from harbor freight.
