Way to hold cab off floor?
I am going to bed taking off my cab but was looking at how I could set it on the ground without bending the metal on the bottom could I build a little holder out of wood to keep off the ground/Do rust repair has anyone done this?
Thanks. |

Re: Way to hold cab off floor?
I made one out of Metal.
You could easily make one out of wood. I used 3/8's all-thread rod to bolt it to the fixture. If you build it out of wood you could use lag bolts. I used the 4 cab mounting holes to secure to my frame I built.

Re: Way to hold cab off floor?
My son took a wooden pallet and screwed casters at all 4 corners.
Make them all the wheels crazy and it's easier to roll around and tuck in a corner. |

Re: Way to hold cab off floor?
I used the same plans off of this site. Think it required 8 2x4's... don't remember.
The painter wanted to borrow it, as his dolly was loaned out. I put casters on the bottom and everything. That was over a year ago, and I've asked for it back several times (for the Camaro I'm building) and although I've seen another C-10 sitting on it, I've never been able to get it back. So, I borrowed a metal one from him. I'll take it back if/when I get my wood one back (I've got the subframe on it now, the Camaro is currently on the rotisserie... |

I use a small trailer, makes it easier to move around with a atv or garden tractor and if you want to work on it just put 2 jack stands at the back and you are good to go

I made a dolly outta 2x4 and 4x4, it rolls around easily.. then I hung my cab to replace the floor pan.

Re: Way to hold cab off floor?
Don't have a picture, but found an old bed frame with wheels. Cut them off wit about 3" on each side of the wheel so they were L shaped and tacked them on to the bottom of the cab. Could reach everything top to bottom. Tipped it over on a pallet when I worked on the underside.

Re: Way to hold cab off floor?
You should do your cab rust repair while still bolted on your frame before you remove it , then do body work and paint on the stand after. It makes it easy to bolt it back down after because it was done on the frame.

Re: Way to hold cab off floor?
A rotisserie is a wonderful thing to have for a cab retso and relatively easy to make compared to a car unit.
The main parts are horizontals that bolt from the front door jam to the rear door jam and a "pipe on pipe" axle mounted to those through the cab. Then a frame on each side to hold the cab up off the floor. I see if I have a pic of the one I made from years ago.
