Broken hood ornament repair
The base of my hood ornament was broken, so I removed the spring, changed
the base and now I'm having difficulty keeping the spring in place while trying to turn the wires to the outside, so they hold the spring in it's proper place. Any ideas? Thanks |

Re: Broken hood ornament repair
I just put the 2 hook end parts together with a little tape. I then push those through the spring and compress it as much as I can. Then I try and hook one side to the highest point of compressed spring. If it is not all the way to the top release tape holding hook parts together and then just slow turn spring until it is all the was to the top.

Re: Broken hood ornament repair
Thanks truckin 79. With your ideas and a second set of hands I was able to get
it back together. Joe |

I know its not what you will want to do, but my uncle broke his and he put his back on with contact cement. Its been repaired for years.

Re: Broken hood ornament repair
Just an update on the repair. I used a plastic cap from a slot wall hook to hold the wires from getting caught in the spring during compression. I cut the cap
in half so it wasn't interfering with the middle of the spring. I then compressed the spring while my buddy used a needle nose plier to bend the wires to keep the spring compressed. Joe |
