1969-72 Power Steering Pump replacement
I've done some research, mainly on the board and it seems their is a issue with getting the correct replacement Power Steering Pump.
I ordered the recommended AC/DELCO part number ACD# 36P1410 / GM #19319936 (all pictures show round type). The one I received was the square reservoir type, not the round long neck type that was pictured. The square type will not fit in the OE 72 truck brackets. So, I'm headed to NAPA to see if I can match one up. Or, has any body figured out the correct part number for the exact replacement?

Re: 1969-72 Power Steering Pump replacement
I think we ended up using parts off the new one to rebuild the old one for the same not fitment reason...

Re: 1969-72 Power Steering Pump replacement
Just posted about this in another thread - NAPA sold me the square type as a direct replacement for the "chimney" style round one. As you found out, it doesn't work. I was able to use my old pump after all. If yours is bad/leaking, you may need to rebuild it... I haven't found a source for the old style pumps except used on eBay, and then you just don't know what you're getting.

Re: 1969-72 Power Steering Pump replacement
I don't have a "chimney" style, I just have the brackets and accessories. I think I found a used one that a friend is going to sale me. I'm wondering if the reservoirs can be swapped out with square pump. I did find a replacement though, pricey...
http://www.tuffstuffperformance.com/...ack-6198b.html I haven't had time to really exam all the details of this item

Re: 1969-72 Power Steering Pump replacement
You can source the chimney style from Classic Industries or any of the car reproduction part suppliers. Cars used them from 1969 and back. 1970 cars went to the rectangular.
I think even Advance Auto Parts carries the old style pump.

Re: 1969-72 Power Steering Pump replacement
Been following this thread with interest, as I'd like to convert my 69 350 V8 truck to PS. Found this at Classic Industries. http://www.classicindustries.com/pro...ts/ps6084.html
Does anybody know if it is correct for 69 V8s. No AC on my truck if that makes a difference.

Re: 1969-72 Power Steering Pump replacement
Rock auto has listing with pictures of both types/multiple vendors. Might be worth a look.

Re: 1969-72 Power Steering Pump replacement
Is it not the case that the pump itself is actually the circular section and it can be moved from one reservoir housing to another? I seem to have a vague member of doing this years ago on my Camaro in order to retain the chimney style when all I could find is the square... but it's a hazy memory of 15 years ago!

The 2 (?) studs and the pressure relief valve are the only thing holding the pump to the body.

Re: 1969-72 Power Steering Pump replacement
My original pump on my '71 K20 was leaking from the O-ring at the pump. The original reservoir was pretty beat up from the previous owner. I ordered a pump with reservoir from O'Reillys and when it came in it was the square style that will not work. I ended up taking it back and ordering just the pump without reservoir. I put the new pump in my old reservoir and fought trying to get the o-ring to seal. Luckily I had another original one laying around that I ended up using. I must've had the pump on and off 10 times.

Re: 1969-72 Power Steering Pump replacement
Mine worked but it leaked. Was able to get a "seal kit" with all the 'O' rings and stuff from Auto Zone. I think it was about $12 in 2018.

Re: 1969-72 Power Steering Pump replacement
Rock Auto lists them with and without reservoirs.
https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...ring+pump,7380 This one with the reservoirs looks correct, AC Delco also. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...031690&jsn=453
