What is useable?

There’s a 72 C65 truck for sale here in town that was originally a 427 air brake truck. Motor blew and is gone, transmission is there and air conpressor and suspension. Has factory tach and air cluster, but my question is is it worth taking a look at aside from that stuff? Are the doors desirable since they are cut to accommodate the fenders on the lower fronts? Or is it best to just leave them? Is the cab worth keeping to put on something? They want 500 for all of it that I want. Never really had to deal with the big ones. Well I’m not wanting it to be a heavy hauler or anything. I’m just wondering what if the cab equipment will work on lighter trucks. Mainly are the doors something to save to use on smaller pickups? Have to weld a Corner on

Cab looks pretty nice, I don't know what it takes to drop these onto a regular 3/4 or 1 ton frame, mounts are taller, floor is flat. but I think it's worth it.

You won't find nicer doors than on the big trucks because they were up out of the slop and salt. Just weld a double thickness on the corner and use them. Looks like the '72 black door panels are pretty nice too. They are worth a few bucks.

The complete floor minus the toe boards can be used in the regular pickups with a little modification to the front corners and forward part of the hump. They are often times in really good shape.

Steering wheel, radio, glove box door, etc, etc....

Looks like a tach in the instrument cluster and a whole bunch of other good parts. Plus lots of scrap steel. I would buy as many of those that I could at that price!

If it was mine,I would put a late model driveline in it,and enjoy it.I does appear that these big old rigs are catching on for resto projects,I am looking for one myself.

Grab the cable cover from the heater diversion box - you can see it in the second pic. Lighter duty trucks have same or similar box with holes for this cover though GM didn’t add them in c10-c30 series. The cover cleans up the look of the cab IMO.

Probably won't work since others haven't mentioned it, but I'm seeing bucket seats. Are they relatively the same as the 10-30 series buckets? If not, I wonder if they would fit in them? Might be cool to have them in one to be different. I'd imagine they would sit a bit higher than the light duty truck buckets, but with a little modification maybe??

Also what is the knob do above the ignition??

The whole truck is usable. Unless it is slated for the crusher, I'd leave it for someone who appreciates it for what it is and is willing to do the little bit it needs to bring it back to a fine example of another element in classic trucks. If it was all a bolt-on swap deal to use the major parts on a light duty would be one thing. But with effort required to make use, I say leave it be and let the effort be towards honoring it as it is.

These trucks have always had a following. Only recently have they been gaining interest in degrading them into light trucks with big body or slapping a pickup bed on to have a rough rider with little use other than look cool. I think if a person didn't want to deal with the aged drivetrain with harder to find parts, swapping late truck components of like capacity would be trick. It is being done by some.

Some people are interested in what these trucks are. Others are interested in what they can make these trucks into.

I am not saying one is better than the other (though I prefer the former).

Either way, this rig is worthwhile to someone for the price.

Well I would be saving it from the crusher. I agreed to buy the cab and front clip but was going to see if there was any interest in the frame and suspension stuff along with the air compressor he still has. It can sit out my my place forever for all I care just didn’t want to see good stuff go to the scrap

I'm like you. I don't really care what happens with it in the long run as long as it doesn't end up in the shredder.

That is what I am thinking also... I would love to save a truck from the scrap pile.

If that were even remotely close to me I would buy it from you for $1500. Rust free, great car hauler body, I would put another gas or likely a Diesel engine in it.
Buy it is my suggestion, that is a$2000 money maker at minimum.

I’ll ask over in the heavy hauler section as well, but does anyone want or have a need for the frame, suspension, and air parts? If so I’ll nab it but if not I’ll let him try to sell it and hope it goes before he cuts it up
