Re: Overdrive install
I'm not trackin, why can't you connect it? Is it just too short? Or is the square drive in the speedo drive bullet rounded out?

Re: Overdrive install
I'm thinking the BW OD uses a different connector? or speedo cable? The OD works off a signal from the governor on the OD at 28 mph. If the speedo cable doesn't connect then the OD won't kick in. I can get the connector to thread on but it's not tight...wobble wobble turkey neck.

Re: Overdrive install
Looks like it will connect up. Sure it's turning from the inside?

Re: Overdrive install
If it's rounded out, then a new one is required. If you just can't get it to seat, then it's helpful to have someone spin the speedo end of the square drive while you apply very light pressure at the trans connection until you feel it drop into the drive and then it's easier to screw on the cable retainer. If working solo, just get the retainer cap started, then go spin the speedo end of the square drive yourself - will be obvious if when it seats in the trans end.

Re: Overdrive install
It is likely that you will need a cable drive adapter to make it work. There are a half dozen different styles of speedometer drives. See below for an example.

Re: Overdrive install
I installed a GM OD tranny from a 69 into my 70 C10. The cable worked fine.
The governor doesn't care if speedo is hooked up or not. |
