Can someone i d this carb also what the ia stamping means also where the 2 vac lines go to

q-jet for a 70 chev truck w/350 & auto trans
Built March 19th 1970 IA is the 'plant code' (and doesn't represent where it was built) - it was an internally used reference to quickly match the correct carb to the correct engine as it came down the engine assembly line. As for vac lines: Last edited by jocko; 04-27-2019 at 05:29 PM. |

Also, the device between the carburetor and the distributor vacuum advance is a solenoid that only allows vacuum advance when the engine has reached a specified temperature and is in high gear. This is an emissions control part that reduced oxides of nitrogen in the exhaust in this era truck. If it has failed, you may not be getting vacuum advance. It's easy to check, if you are interested. Most people just bypass it.

The vacuum outlet by the choke pulloff with the cap on it goes/went to the temp control on the air cleaner.

The plug on the tranny is the ground for the solenoid on the intake. When you get into high gear the power circuit is completed and the solenoid opens and provides vacuum to your distributor.

See post #4. Since you are not in California, you can throw that all away and run a vacuum line directly from the carburetor to the vacuum advance chamber.
