Axle conversion

Ok so I know I can take the guts out of a gm 14 bolt rear but the axle shafts are a 1/4" too long. So my question is does anyone make a conversation kit to run the 14 bolt innards in an ho72 to prevent cutting down and weakening the 14 bolt axle shafts.

Re: Axle conversion

Cutting down the 14 bolt shafts doesn’t weaken them. If anything makes them slightly stronger because there is slightly less length to torque the shaft.

Only concern is not getting it too hot depending on how you cut it off. Band saw is ideal and doesn’t put enough heat worth mentioning in the metal.

Most of the aftermarket full-float axles are sold cut-to-length anyhow.
