I just fixed one of my horns
I just took one horn apart and got it blowing again. Very simple operation. I used a dremel, ground off the rivets. Inside is a metal diaphragm. It was rusty, cleaned it up with emery cloth and little wire wheel on the dremel.
There's also a points looking contact in it. It seemed stuck. I pried it apart and cleaned the contacts with emery cloth. Pretty much cleaned it everywhere in there. It started raining before I could get the second horn off. I also sealed it with sealer as it had a paper gasket. Very simple. In one parts catalog they go for 100 for the set. I can take a few pics of the next one if anyone's interested. My horn problem was the horns themselves.

Re: I just fixed one of my horns
Second horn resulted in failure. The metal diaphragm was pitted, it was worse than the first. I'll post a series of pics.

Points looking contact.it's also adjustable from the outside with a reversed torx socket. Female instead of male tool needed ot channel locks.

Re: I just fixed one of my horns
No springs, nothing falls apart on opening. I do have a working horn now but just one of the two.

Re: I just fixed one of my horns
Is your one working horn a High or Low?
I had the same Dremel fun with a C horn from my '68 C/10. I got it sounding again, but I have a steering wheel horn/contact problem. Or a short in the black wire. Not obvious on the surface. The single horns were pitched in the Key of C. Double horns ran a Low of G and a High of A. Blown together, they put out a chord, that hits the human ear. [I think.] Not a pro musician, so I'm not sure what key the resultant note is... You could post a WTB ad for the matching horn. High or Low.

Re: I just fixed one of my horns
I believe it was the high that didn't work.

Re: I just fixed one of my horns
Thanks for posting this, I read it last night and went right out to the garage, fixed 2 high note horns, contacts needed cleaning. The rivers are surprising difficult to remove!

Thanks randy. I've gotten so much out of this forum I'm glad to be able to give something back.

Re: I just fixed one of my horns
Junkyards may have the right stuff, if looking for a High note horn, if you still have them in your area.
I ran a Mercedes Benz horn, a very high C for a while. Made an annoying 'Beeeep'. Only trouble was when blasting it at ricegrinders in the usual commuter morning shoot-out, I just got 'Beeeped' back. I have tried it with my DelcoRemy horn with a double wire horn harness, but a short in my horn button circuit has me stumped. When it does honk, the chord is pure jazz. Maybe putting on the original wheel will help. As an alternative, I got a USA-made Fiamma brand "Freeway Blaster" dual horn set for not much money at Harbor Freight. Yes USA-made. I run it in my '71 Jimmy.

Harbor fright. I'm surprised. Do they sound good?

Re: I just fixed one of my horns
I like late 70's/early 80's Cadillac horns myself. Loud and sexy.

Re: I just fixed one of my horns
They do. I call them my "F___ Y__" horns. Had to lean on them today when some Jeep with New Jersey plates, pulled a 'Jersey Sweep' of 2 lanes left to turn left into a mall, cutting in front of me while on my way to work. What's a guy from Jersey doing here in the Summer anyway? Witness Protection?
