Hauling power for a 250

I'm looking at a 1968 C20 with a 250 I6 4 speed to be hauling my Alaskan camper in. Does anyone know if this will get down the highway at 70 mph or around that or is this low geared and 55 will be the top speed?
Thanks for the help,
Joe

More power for sure to run that 70 mph plus gears will be to short.
What is the weight of your camper btw?

Re: Hauling power for a 250

I had one with the 250 and at 60 MPH with no load it was screaming. I don't think that's the right motor for hauling a camper around, unless you just plan to putter down the back roads.

Re: Hauling power for a 250

I've had a '68 with a 250. At 2800 RPM it was rated at 110 HP full throttle. It got it's max net HP of 125 HP at 3800 RPM . I never had mine over ~60 MPH and I don't think cruising with a camper at 70 is realistic. JMHO

okay thanks for your help. The camper ways around 1,200 lb. I will pass on it because I would need something to get me up and down the highway pretty quick.
