Road hats
I don't usually pass up a good road hat when I see one while driving my truck. I turn back around a go get it, if it is safe to do so. I found one yesterday while hauling furniture in my 69 CST/10. Throw in the wash and next thing I have a good truck driving hat. They usually match the wear and tear of my truck. I keep some of the collection on my dash. Who else stops for road hats? If I'm the only one, well then I'm just certifiable. Bonus points if you accidentally run it over again with your 67-72 and then swing back and pick it up. My favorite is the Circle JA Custom Dirt Work/Paving hat.

I'm like Flashed, I have too many hats now. I do pick up the nicer bungee straps though. If I see one on the way to town I will stop and pick it up on the way home. LockDoc

Re: Road hats
Gotta say I have never picked up a hat....never even crossed my mind. I do pick up other things that catch my eye though.

Re: Road hats
I have picked up a few. A couple turned out to be brand new fitted baseball ones in my size even. If they are ok after a cleaning I add them to my workshop collection. If one gets really nasty, I toss it away and grab the next one in the box.

Re: Road hats
When Mine get nasty I'll take a few and toss them on the side of the road , Then I'll sit across the way with a cup of coffee and watch how fast they get picked up .

Re: Road hats
Sometimes I leg the Blazer out on I-95 & POOF!!.... there goes my hat. A few years ago I lost a favorite, my vintage 1995 GATORNATIONALS hat that way. Not worth dodging cars & trucks on foot trying to retrieve it, I'm old & gimpy.

Re: Road hats
I didn’t wear hats as a kid and don’t wear hats as grandpa. And maybe it’s just me, I for sure would never wear a road hat. But when ever I do see a road hat I definitely try my best to run it over hah!

Re: Road hats
I didn't have a cap at the Carlisle truck show back in '08 and it was HOT!! My buddy left his GMC cap laying so I was good to go.
w/o cap: W/cap (mo' betta): I tend to get lice from time to time. The early sign is my head itches when I wear a hat. So driving down the road and my head starts itchin' I toss the hat!

Re: Road hats
That's what washing machines are for. Man, I have hats 30+ years old I probably haven't worn in over 25 years. I just like them still, but don't routinely wear a hat anyway. It's hard to sell a used hat it seems. Might as well toss out the window. See a used cap for sale at a flea market, "I ain't puttin' that on my head. Who knows where that's been?". Find one along the road and," Hey alright, a hat! Fits, too!!"

Re: Road hats
Why limit roadside collections just to hats? All kinds of clothing items can be found along the road side. For instance there's the ever popular road shoe, occasionally found in pairs. If you find a single don't be discouraged, another will turn up pretty soon. Even if they don't match, 2 of 'em is technically still a pair. If you network with other roadside collectors you might even match up a pair in similar sizes. You could take the single shoes to your local Ihop restaurant....... 'cause it's the home of the one legged waitress.

Re: Road hats
I've never found one. I've never found anything worth picking up for that matter. But I have a bunch of hats. Lots! I almost always wear a hat because my hair is long and it will blow in my face if I don't keep it under control.

Re: Road hats
Yeah, I keep a few in the truck for window down driving all through the warmer weather for that reason.
I was riding my Harley with my X when my welders cap blew off my head. It was a dual hwy going under the interstate. I did two u-turns either side to come back up on the cap, lowered my left foot, and scooped it back up to catch with my hand and stick back on my head. One of the few things I ever did that I recall her being impressed with.
