I have not received a reply. I've made a 2nd request and also asked if he'd post them to the listing.

I bet it takes those blocks a long time to warm up and a longer time to cool down. Man, that's a lot of iron!

Re: 1967 original survivor

Our first truck was a '69 GMC swb stepper, in Orange.

Straight six, three on the tree.

I've been thinking about re-creating it.

Re: 1967 original survivor

Just saw this add today locally, not far from me either.
Probably will bring the money. I'd go look but my Arc is full and the rains coming...again.

That's a 250 L6. Too much headroom in the engine bay above the aircleaner to be a 292.

A man could do worse than build a Stepside with an L6 in the 67-72 range. Especially one in 516 Orange. For me, I'd like a 292 and the Muncie SM465.

Re: 1967 original survivor

Oh well, still an enjoyable truck to drive, I'm sure it's exactly like my 67 sbss, 6 3ott on the road, but the V6 would of added a whole nother level of coolness

By the time we were done with it we had a 292 popped out to 305, with a homemade tripower (Pontiac progessive linkage), true dual exhaust and a 3.11 low gear Saginaw four speed.

It would out run a small block - at least across the intersection. A couple guys dad worked with were pretty frustrated by that.

So that was an L25 block at .100 overbore with a 3.975'' diameter? [Using Santucci's chart and assuming normal stroke.] Did you have any waterjacket issues? The book cautions over-boring above .060.
With long headers, dual exhaust is a natural. I have an ''N'' pipe crossover on my 296'' L25 [@.030 over].
Since I'm no warlock at carburation, I'd probably stay with a 4-bbl AFB type, but maybe the 600 CFM unit.

With a built 292 in the '68 Stepside, and a stock crate 350 in my '71 GMC Jimmy K/1500 -- I know which engine has more guts. The L6 292 hands down. But 2WD vs 4WD may be an unfair comparison.

Waterjacket issues: not during our ownership, but the subsequent owner cracked the cylinder head (which also had quite a bit of work in it) so that might be related.

We built a few engines like this for the roundy-round guys locally until one of the racers passed a V8 car on the straightaway. They tore the engine down and we got kicked out.

Back to topic: I'm still trying to figure out how to get to Florida and get this one home without my wife finding out.

Maybe I could convince her it would look good pulling her Airstream.

Re: 1967 original survivor

The one in the ad appears to have a new master cylinder and cleaner firewall. Wonder why it took so long to get a "before" pic?

Understandable, really might not be safe to operate regardless the mileage without a through brake inspection. The firewalls on most all '67 GMC's were fawn ( the interior color) with body color overspray. The fawn paint (GMC or Chevy) never really seamed to be applied in full coats in the firewall area. I was expecting a little more paint on the valve covers.
