Its a rebuilt stock long block with about 750 miles on it. It was put in brand new in 98 then sat 4 years and then only went on 4 or 5 trips to Home Depot.
It ran perfect but was filthy and leaky Thanks for the kind words its been alot of fun redoing http://home.pacbell.net/aley24/index Heres what it used to look like Last edited by Paso76GMCstepper; 06-09-2004 at 02:34 AM. |

I only wish I had the time and patience to make my 305 look like that. BTW - What is the difference between the long block and short block? I've always heard it thrown around but never knew what exactly it ment.

I'm going with headers to dual exhaust with an x pipe and aerochambers myself
Flowmasters are good for being loud, magnaflows are good too, but I like the straight through design of the aerochambers...

Aerochamber! I have one on my 305 and it sounds like a beast. Idle isn't too loud and if you are cruising, near no resonance. Gets loud when you get on it. I love it.

I was leaning towards aerochambers too can I add an x pipe to my dual exhaust?
It exits right before the rear axle |

You can do the X pipe but it will be expensice. It would be the ultimate setup though.

Not to hard at all if u weld good. And if u can get enogu hroom to work. I would buy a pre made x-pipe though from a shop or a differetn company. But as far as mufflers go..i'd say go for it

Great looking engine...you should be proud!
Word of advice, those flex fans are JUNK! They do not work near as well as a stock fan or clutch fan setup.

Paso76GMCstepper that is a HUGE improvement. What I want to know is the engine compartment going to look just as nice before the motor goes back in... |

I agree...loose that flex fan. It's eating HP. And your cooling problem is lack of fan shrode. Either go with a Clutched fan and shrode of go electric. Either are better then what you have and they will free up a little HP.

Lookin' great. Are you cleaning up under the hood too before the engine goes in?
I want to pull my engine and clean everything under there so bad. Next time the engine comes out my truck is getting a rework under the hood. I have to agree with some of the others, those flex fans dont move the air they should. I have one for awhile and it got the job done most the time, but when I went to electric fan there is no comparison. I would recommend going back to the stock clutch setup. Make a decision on the clutch setup yet? Are you going to put a new clutch in while your at it? Keep us posted on your progress, we love pics

WOW thanks for all the replies. Yes the whole engine bay is gonna be white except for the wheel tubs they will be black. The radiator support is already painted white. Gotta clean up the insides of the fenders and hood. Also have to weld on the cab corner tab that the passenger side fender bolts to. It rusted away. Im running out of time and money so a middle of the road clutch will be in order. Should start getting the motor and rad support mounted in the next day or two, then I can fire it up and look for leaks. After that the front clip wil go on. Off to the mountains trout fishing July 1
