67-72 Production Numbers
Trying to find the production numbers for my 67 K20...Found a list on line from "Standard Catalog of American Lt. Duty Trucks 3rd Edition. My truck is a 67 K20 step side, 8 ft. bed...the beginning vin is: KS247T.......however the catalog list my vehicle description as KS10904 with a hyphen on numbers produced, as in unknown.....I know its a pretty rare truck and discovered it was a Canadian built truck. Just would like to know how many were built.......

Says they made 1736 total of the '72 4x4 short stepside.
I wonder how many GMC's of like were made in '72. Pat |

Re: 67-72 Production Numbers
AussieinNC...I stand corrected....I mistook the digit following the T, which is 1 Oshawa.... But back to my original question...If the vin is KS247T - where does the KS10904 enter??

Re: 67-72 Production Numbers
VIN vs Model number. It looks like there were ZERO made? Is that because this list doesn’t include canada?

Re: 67-72 Production Numbers
Ah...chevyland you got me on this one....I clearly see where the KS20904 is addressed...On the SPID!....When looking at the "Standard Catalog of American Lt. Duty Trucks 3rd Edition, I was expecting to see the prefix of the vin: KS247T....Its not easy getting old & senile.....Now I know there were 500 made...not a bad CL score...

Re: 67-72 Production Numbers
Looks more like 785 made in the 3/4 ton model
According to grumpy’a lead to the cheat sheet The 904 in model # means Stepside If it came as fleetside it would be 934 Cab and chassis would’ve been 903 Etc etc Yes , definitely a nice score Are the Tow Hooks still on it |

I believe your VIN translates to : KS247T118490 K = 4 wheel drive S = 6 cyl 2 = 5200 - 7500 GVW 4 = Pickup 7 = 1967 T = Tarrytown Assembly Plant New York...not Canada... The number 118490 means the build number for this truck was 18490 ....the numbers for each year started from 100000.... Hope this helps... ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: 67-72 Production Numbers
Aussie......You are absolutely correct...I'm not getting it....Here's part of confusion In the 'Standard Catalog of American Light-Duty Trucks, 3rd edition' the KS10904 is listed for both K10 1/2 ton & K20 3/4 ton...Your post yesterday, quote : KS10904 Step-Side 8ft 3051 - with 500 builds in 1967 end quote....Looks like you got that number from the 1/2 ton.
Then chevyland comes along and his quote is :Looks more like 785 made in the 3/4 ton model According to grumpy’a lead to the cheat sheet and now your saying this: The number 118490 means the build number for this truck was 18490 ....the numbers for each year started from 100000.... So are you saying there were 18490 made? or 500 ???.... or 18490 of all the production of every 1967 Chevy truck ...as in sequence number.???..... And still in the Standard Catalog of American Light-Duty Trucks, 3rd edition there's a hyphen 'production total' for KS10904....for 3/4 ton.....and to make matters worse they list it as a 'C' series, not a 'K' like they did for the 1/2 ton....ALSO....the SPID gives the model number as KS20904.... - Despite all the benefit of doubts there still is no production number for this described truck.........So you are right Aussie.....this 'young old man..ya not gettin" |

Re: 67-72 Production Numbers
Sorry
I messed that one up in post #12 And put up the CS (2wd) This is Bowties cheat sheet Looks like you are correct,? 500 built I have the book you are referring to and you are correct It does not state how many were made in your configuration All the model # states, is KS =4wd 20= 3/4 ton 904= Step side Sorry if I confused the matter Edit- I’ll just stick to reading my book Last edited by Chevyland; 09-29-2019 at 10:20 AM. |

Re: 67-72 Production Numbers
Wow...This topic is really derailed....First off...Aussie came back with his comment on the unit build number - sequence....I am well aware of this reference... and I Thank him for this added bit of information. The rub was "this young old man..ya not gettin" - when I am getting it quite clear...
So.... with the incorrect reference from "Standard Catalog of American Lt. Duty Trucks 3rd Edition" of 500 units which applies to 1/2 ton...and the reference from "American Light Duty Trucks" of 785, might seem to be a target number, despite the CS error...It still states 3/4 ton with the correct model number.....Perhaps the CS was a typo for the KS intent..... |

Re: 67-72 Production Numbers
If you compare the production numbers between the 1/2 tons and the 3/4 tons they are very similar with the exception of the chassis cab's. Would you feel confident stating 500? If you compare numbers from 68,69 you see they made twice as many 3/4 ton steps compared to the 1/2 tons. so your back to a guess. If I had to guess based on the data we are all looking at i would go with the pattern you see in the 68 and 69 data of 1000 trucks. Its still a rare truck configuration. When you consider the fact its 50 plus years old there is probably not many left. If its any consollation I have a 1967 K15 short bed wideside and GMC didnt keep any numbers at all so i have to use 1967 k10 numbers and speculate that more Chevy truck were sold than GMC by a 3:1 or 4:1 ratio. post some pictures.

Re: 67-72 Production Numbers
This lil bit of confusion is very common:
The build number 118490 means that your truck was 18490 in the build line of all truck and cab chassis variants produced during the 1967 build year... My research shows 500 of your truck style were built....in amongst that 18490 total production units produced in 1967. Chevrolets data records were never perfect and add in time and changes and confusion is the name of the game. Hope this helps.... ![]() ![]() ![]()
