Hood Release Issue

What would keep the hood from popping up when the release is pushed up? I have to reach through where the soon to be new inner grille goes and give a slight push or take a wooden paint stir stick and pry up in the gap between hood and grille slightly. Hood is not bound up anywhere. I just installed this front clip from a donor. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Have you tried adjusting the hood-latch screw?
If you do adjust it, I suggest put a reference mark
and keep up with 1/2 turns and 1/4 turns etc.

If you're going to put inner grills on you'll be installing a rod that takes place of some of the latch hardware, that you can't access with inner grills. I have that set up and it works fine once installed correctly.

If you remove the hood lock adjustment plate and the hood closes all the way down without binding and pops up when you release pressure on it, the problem is in the plate and pin adjustment. If it doesn't pop up with the plate off, the springs are weak or the hinges are binding. Be sure and lube the pin and hood release mechanism as well as the hinges.

If you look at Getter-Done's picture you can see that the mounting holes are elongated for adjustment as well as the pin being adjustable....

Let us know what you find out on it.

Almost everyone forgets to oil the hinges! that is why they wear out. When I buy a car or truck I change the oil and filter, check the other fluids and oil or grease all of the hinges.

I was out doing a few other things today and decided to really clean the latch system up. Mine now pops up enough when I hit the lever that I can raise the hood up.

I used some degreaser, a pick, and an old toothbrush. All this gunk is old hard dried lube


Once I got it clean I just lubed it back up and tested.

Laguna Glide, This is off the subject but, It looks like I see the battery ground wire going to your thermostat housing. It would be better if it went to the engine block some where. The original location would be the Alternator bracket but I see it is chromed and you probably don't want to mess up.The aluminum intake is not the best conductor of electricity.

I'm having a similar problem but mines with the safety hook. The post goes down and locks, but the "safety hook" does nothing..... it does go up into the catch, but once the ball is released, the hook is already out of the catch. Any help before I run out and buy another $5-600 hood? Thank you

Thanks to the good ole Oregon liquid sunshine today I did not get to this issue! I'll update once I'm able to troubleshoot. Meanwhile if anyone else has any other ideas please post them. Thanks

Ya that is where the last owner had it. I haven't taken the time to move it yet as partly because I am unsure it is long enough to move it many places. That chrome bracket is old and pitted anyhow so it wouldn't matter much.

UPDATE: Okay are you already for a big laugh! After assessing all the suggestions I came to the conclusion the springs/hinges were worn and weak. I spent a few hours swapping out with my donor truck only to find out they made in worse! So I swapped them back then spent time adjusting the pin and still no luck!!! Wasted all afternoon and still nothing... THEN I remembered I had removed the old bumpers but still had not installed the new bumpers and corner adjusters. Installed them in 5 minutes and!!! Wallah, hood pops up great now!

No I don't have a build thread. If I had a shop I certainly would as I'd do a complete tear down and rebuild. Unfortunately it all gets done in my driveway for now so I just do a little here and there.
