Need UPS info

I recieved a shipment from a board member today and one item was broken. I have no problem with the member. He is a stand up guy and I have contacted him.
What I want to know is, are UPS shipments insured to any amount before you are required to pay? I thought they automatically gave $100.00 in coverage. But I do not know for sure. The item is less than that.

Yeah $100...but good luck getting them to pay...they will go to the end of the earth not too....be sure to save the box and all packing material if you file a claim...thats the first thing they want to see. They will almost surely deny the claim when you file it...I think it is automatic...but keep on them...I think they only pay if you make so much noise they want you to shut up...lol

If they are like Fed Ex Kevin, They say up to $100 but its hard to get it out of them, you have to show what you paid for it, also proof of what it would cost new, I argued with a Fed Ex guy for an hour and told him it was false advertisement about the $100 deal, they do check the package and will take the merchandise and ship it back to the person you bought it from, then your our the parts, money till the guy you brought it from gets money from them, the shipper has to file the claim too! You only take it to them and fill out a report, its all up to the shipper to do the rest. Good luck, they'll try to screw you. Randy

You know, the seller sent the items in good faith. I bought them because of the cheap price. I really have no problem with the seller and do not really want a lengthy battle. The parts have been a little hard to find but I think I will look for more. The money is small and life is short. If he is as busy as I am, it will not be worth the headache for the two of us.

fyi- ups has different colored labels on packages that are insured and ones that are not (yes all are auto up to $100). when i first started working there they made sure that everyone knew the difference and told us to be extra careful with the ones that were insured

if you ever saw packages getting loaded/unloaded, you would understand why so many things get broken

Sent a cast iron transfercase adaptor to texas about a year ago--it showed up broken in half I told the shipper had some paper work filled out, took about 4-5 weeks to get my money back. Not really that big of a proplem for me ---that time anyway.
