Fuel tank removal
I searched the site and cant find an exact answer to my question. Hoping someone with experience can answer, I like to plan these things out makes it easier.
I ordered a new fuel tank and I need to get the existing one out. Inside the cab everything looks pretty straight forward, remove lines unbolt etc... question is do I just pull the tank through the rubber ring on the outside of the truck? I dont want to replace that if I dont have to (which I might since the new one is an market tank). Thanks in advance.

Yes, the tank spout should pull through the grommet. If the grommet is old it could be damaged on removal of old tank. If still in good condition spay some lube on the inside of the grommet when installing the new tank. Also the new tank spout may not be in the same location as the old one and some adjusting may need to be done. I use the wooden handle on my hammer insert it into the spout and adjust accordingly........good luck.

Re: Fuel tank removal
I just did this. If you have to buy a new grommet, everyone says to get the one from classic heartbeat. They are pretty cheap, like 13$ shipped. I’d just order one as a back up and save yourself time if you end up needing it.

Re: Fuel tank removal
Do yourself a favor and make sure the tank is drained as much as possible , I thought mine was near empty and wasn't (via the gauge) . The extra weight made it a lot more of a wrestling match than it needed to be .

Re: Fuel tank removal
Will do! I also went ahead and pulled the seats.. figured 2 birds with one stone, I am putting in shoulder harnesses so it makes both jobs a lot easier and I was able to vacuum up 48 years of crud while I was at it ( or my son was )
