Starter removal???

I've been trying to take the starter out of my 67. It has 3 bolts holding it in. I removed those and the damn thing barely budges. I had to fight with it and had gotten it to move forward maybe a quarter inch and it won't move anymore. I didn't remove the wires because they are a bastard to get to. I figured that I would drop the starter and then remove the wires. It isn't the wires that are making it difficult to remove, is it?. I figured that they would have a decent amount of slack in them so that I could move the starter forward. My brother in law says that it might have a bracket holding it in but I really don't see anything else mounted to the starter. I may have to take another long look at it.
I've removed starters before with great ease but I just can't figure this one out. Does anyone have suggestions? Maybe even some pics where a bracket might be mounted.
If it helps it is a 327 motor.

Thanks in advance,

Larry.

Too many/not enough shims under the starter? Sounds like it might be pretty tightly meshed with the fly wheel. Remove the black thick wire in the middle. It'll be easier that way.

Take the plugs out and turn the flywheel while you give the starter a few bumps. See if that does the trick. Be careful - that starter will probably pop out and hit you in the head...

yeah, there is supposed to be a bracket on the front end, going to the block. A lot of vehicles I have seen do not have it but it comes that way stock. Look at the very front end, opposite end from the tranny.........

After if "Bops" you in the head, and in my case is bent from hitting such hard
DU grade material, it will probably just dangle from the wires. You will then have
to wrestle with it to get the wires unhooked. When I last changed the engine,
I extended the wires. Now after it "Bops" me in the head it will, at least, fall to
the floor.
