no dash lights

none of the lights in my dash are working and the coil in the light switch looks alright what else could be causing the problem

the headlights and parking lights work but there are no dash lights. they only worked on 1 position before. after i took the cluster apart to put in a autometer volt guage and put it back in the truck they didn't work so i changed the switch and they still dont work but i can turn on the light in the cab. it would be kind of nice to be able to see my guages at night. did something get grounded out or ????

Get a test light. Pull the headlamp switch to the first position. Test the fuse for tail lamps, if good proceed to the dash, if not check the headlamp switch, for power coming out to the fuse. If you have power, go to the dash and see if it makes it that far, if so check the bulbs, if the bulbs are ok check the ground.

there should be a black wire w/a clip on it, that you push onto the lip of the dash opening, make sure you did put it back on/or see if its corroded.Try sanding the lip and clip to make sure youve got good contact. jeff

In the pic posted by jef5150 where does the other end of that black wire go to...???
Does it reattach back to a screw on the cluster, or come from somewhere in the truck. Excuse the dumb question, but I know nothing about wiring and I am redoing my dash cluster today to put in a tach conversion kit. I didn't have dash lights before, and I would LOVE to have them now. :-)
