Yeah, that's not going to high centered on any desert roads.

Leaveright there! We went camping many years ago on the west side of the Panamint mountains, near an abandoned (except for squatters) old town named Ballarat. The other side of those mountains is Death Valley. One gal in our group was running around looking at the "cute" rocks and asking what they were. Here husband kept saying "Leaveright!"

We got a great air show, because that location wasn't too far from China Lake NAS, and we saw guys in fighter jet twisting around, having fun.

speaking of limos, before you volunteer for a trans job on your friends limo parked in his driveway..

be advised this is all the clearance you get before rear bumper hits the ground

Just up the canyon is the Barker Ranch where the Manson Family were caught.

And down the other side a ways is where that German couple and their kids got stuck in a rented minivan. They tried to walk to China Lake NAS (just more desert) to be rescued but they all died out there. A couple guys finally found their bones 10 or 15 years later.

Some of those leaverite rocks glow in the dark

Missed that bit of Manson fun by at least a decade! The last thing I'd want is to run into some lunatics when I'm out camping.

I guess you can still drive up there with a 4x4 and visit the ruins. The house got burned down a few years ago but the stone portions remain, including the bathroom where Charlie was hiding under the sink. Apparently the road was better back then because they drove a school bus up there!

I've never been in that area at all, but I just keep running into stories and videos about Owens Valley and Death Valley. The Death Valley Germans search and discovery story is on other hand dot org. Worth reading start to finish if you have a few hours to kill

As far as lunatics, you never know when you will run into one or several. That's why I don't go places anymore that I can't carry a sidearm.

Yeah, I'm an old man now, (67) and try to avoid lunatics. Back when I was young and immortal, life was a bit different. I USED to be able to take a lickin and keep on tickin, just like a watch.
