Not another Vintage Air question
More than one Q
I spent alot of time going through the threads on here and Google without any luck. I emailed Vintage air......no reply. Prior Owner had system installed. Said to me....its one of those that never turns off. I left it at that. Here is a pic of the controller. The vertical switch on the left does nothing. The rest are self explanatory. The fan speed, top horizontal, is totally variable. Soon as I put key to on position, no matter what position I left it on, the air blows out of the dash. Maybe I guess until vacuum is built up? Looking for wiring diagrams, operating manuals, installation manuals, etc for whatever GEN this system might be. I tried Vintage Air site but all I find is newer or different looking controllers/ Thanks, Rob |

Re: Not another Vintage Air question
It may just need tuned, there is a single wire that needs grounded. You can find the instructions on the VA site. Do you have the clear plastic electronic "arms" on the back of the heater controls?

Re: Not another Vintage Air question
On a side note, mine is a Gen IV and looks exactly the same as what you show but I suspect they all look the same from the faceplate.

Re: Not another Vintage Air question
My guess is that yours is the old version like mine. Cable driven and not electronic. You can find the manual to that system still on their site. I think it is labeled old style under the 67-72 C10 page. I can look for link later for you. Sounds like you have a bad part. Call VA. They are always super helpful when I call them.

In the picture I posted with the relays for the wiring kit. They are both 5 prong relays. If the PO hooked the hot wire to the 87A post by mistake this would supply power all the time as long as the key is on.

Re: Not another Vintage Air question
I have one of the oldest systems in my C10, it might even be a Gen I. I have the factory air controller and mine uses cables on the sliders and the fan speed switch (the up and down one) works as it should, so my guess is that you have the slightly newer one that Cebra mentions above that uses plastic electric sliders on the the sliders instead of the cables.
I have the plastic slider system on my mustang. They look like the pic below (look under your dash, this should be obvious): They're finicky. As Cebra mentioned, there is a "set up" procedure. You need to find the gray jumper wire and ground it out. This is the procedure from Vintage Air. You need to follow it exactly: http://www.vintageair.com/instructions_pdf/909950.pdf My Mustang is still finicky at times. Sometimes it won't fully shut off, it will just run the fan at a super slow speed. Sometimes turning it all the way on high then back to off will shut it off, sometimes turning the car off and a restart shuts it off, and sometimes it works exactly as it should (this happens most of the time). The last time I "recalibrated" it, I didn't quite go all the way to the left (off). I kept it a hair off to make sure it turns off.
