Tilt column question.

As with everything I touch on this Blazer the tilt column is barely functional and needs a rebuild. Sometime in the future I may be going to rack and pinion if I ever do the suspension work. I have read you need a shorter column so the angles on the joints aren't too sharp causing binding.

If I end up buying a column in the next year I want to get one that would work in the future if I end up going rack and pinion. What length would be ideal (I understand I will have to lengthen or go to universals to work with what I have stock)

Which is better ididit or flaming river in your opinion?

GM columns are the best.
I rebuild columns, done hundreds of them.

I made the mistake of believing reviews and such that ididit and flaming river are quality columns, bought an ididit floor shift tilt. Its fine but had to change the turn signal cancel cam...what a piece of junk, crappy plastic cam held in place with a tiny retaining and a huge amount of spring pressure. THe retaining ring on the horn contact preloads the upper bearings, terrible system.
GM uses a lock nut.

I currently have parts to build a tilt column which is 2” shorter than normal if your interested. Kind of rare factory short steering shaft. Its listed on the parts forum.

How long is factory and how long is what you have? I "think" I have read 30" is what is needed?

Collar the end of tube is 32 1/2, 2” shaft stickout.

Picture perspective is a little off, hard to take a pic and hold the tape.

I read your for sale add and it says it would move the column closer to the dash. I need less sticking out of the fire wall. I don't want to commit to anything until I know what I really need.
