wheel mounting difference Drum to Disk
did a search for this with no luck.
I have a 72 GMC that we put on a 69 chassis under it since that is all we could find at the time and have wished it was 5 lug to be true to the truck pretty much since the day I finished it. Got my hands on a 5 lug rear axle, so really thinking of swapping it all. My question. How will this affect the front of my truck? Is the measurement from Wheel Mounting surface to wheel mounting surface the same or different between the drum brake and disc brake trucks up front? Also, correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the distance from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface is about 1 inch narrower on the disc brake trucks compared to the drum brake trucks. Is that correct? Thanks for any and all help in advance

Re: wheel mounting difference Drum to Disk
Perfect thank you, that gives me what I needed for the rear of the truck. Anyone know about the front of the truck?

Re: wheel mounting difference Drum to Disk
Maybe do a search for Chevy C10 chassis specs for 1970 which had drum brakes and specs for 1972 which had disc brakes. If I'm not mistaken the disc brake front end is 3/4 to 1" wider per side than drum brakes.

Re: wheel mounting difference Drum to Disk
I wrecked my 1972 C15 leaf spring truck and bent the frame. So I scored a 1969 C10 frame with trailing arms and used that under the truck. I swapped ALL the 1972 front end stuff on to the 1969 frame. So I have all the disk brake stuff up front. Out back I used Moser 5 lug conversion axles in the original 1969 12-bolt housing and now have 5 lugs all the way around on a 1969 frame.
Lots of pics and explanations of how I did it in my build thread. Link is in my signature line. It's the "rebuild of creeping death" link. Gary

Re: wheel mounting difference Drum to Disk
Another question as I prepare to do this swap.
I would like to put 10 inch wide tires in the rear. Can i do this without modifying anything body wise?
