Stock bumper and holes in the bed
I have looked online for an answer and have no luck. Anyone know what these holes in the side of the bed are originally for?
Also, is this rear bumper stock? I bought this truck from an 80 year old that is the only owner. Everything is stock other than the engine, which is stock but a 383. He used to use this truck to pull his race car and trailer to the track. I know these trucks were the work horses of there time and I could see this being an option. For purchase. I look like it though and all the lines are with my truck. To me it looks like it should be there. I just cant find info on it. The only thing I have left to do get it while is the paint and the side moldings. Thanks |

Bumper not stock. Does not look like a Dealer item either. Most of those had the Dealer name stamped in them. Probably after market so he could pull his trailer.
Not sure about the holes, but I don't think something GM would do. Last edited by Zeroman; 03-14-2020 at 05:54 PM. |

Re: Stock bumper and holes in the bed
I bet he had two fuel tanks mounted in the bed of the truck to supply his race car. The filler necks could have been mounted through the bedsides to make them easier to fill.
I notice the square paint pattern on the inside of the bed on the right hand side. Does the left hand side have the same? Are there any holes in the bed floor that might indicate something was bolted down? Just a thought. |

Re: Stock bumper and holes in the bed
pic flip for ya.
I would say Fuel tanks for race fuel also. How many holes are in the bottom of the bed floor? Is there fuel lines blocked off, that where used to run these tanks to the engine in the truck? .

Re: Stock bumper and holes in the bed
My GMC has a hole in the left bedside just like that, it is for the fill pipe for the under bed auxiliary tank. The fill pipe runs down the inner bedside and through the bed floor. (Behind a tin cover). You probably have a fuel tank selector valve on the floor next to the driver seat. When I bought my truck 3 years ago, the top of the aux tank was rusted and it was full of water. I removed the aux tank and selector valve. Your PO may have done the same. I can take pics of mine if you want.
I’ll be in Anchorage Monday to Wednesday. If you want, I might be able to swing by in the evening to help sort some of these issues with you. PM me.

Re: Stock bumper and holes in the bed
Factory option NL2. Look at this thread:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=612449 Scroll down to post #4 and #5. You can see pics of the filler cap on the outside of the bed and the filler neck cover on the inside. The tank is held to the bed by some long carriage bolts.
